If she gets in MSU's honors college, then U-M necessarily is a safety.

No, just because you can get into the honors college at MSU, doesnt mean UofM is a saftey at all. Most likely, it'll be a match.

^We can talk semantics for days; the point being: if you get into MSU's Honors College you WILL get into U-M, period, safety, match, whatever you want to call it; once you're in, it matters not.

i agree with Quincy4

That's funny, I got into MSU's Honors College, and didn't get into Michigan.

While probably most people in MSU honors college could get into UofM, doesnt mean everyone can (as A2Wolves points out)

my friend is in MSU honors college and did not get into michigan.

since michigan doesnt superscore, a 30 ACT is like..bad LOL..that's like what? a 2050? how do u expect to call michigan a safety with a very slightly above average ACT score? and a mediocre GPA (for a public schoool) ...a match..but safety? no lol

HA thats two people right there quincy and sheed..my point proven :)

Well , I can say that my friend got rejected from Michigan state honors and got into Harvard...doesn't mean it's true...it's all hearsay.

i definitely wouldn't call it a safety.

your friend would be considered an exception. I'm sure there are plenty of people who got into MSU honors that didnt get into UofM...can't say the same for the harvard issue

wow... you guys are really into this... i just wanted a basic yes or no if i can get in......

i will not be going to state due to the lack of a architecture school they offer.. as in none...

my buddie got into state's honor and umich but chose state over mich.. everyone at our school pretty much thought he was stoned or something.. oh well, he's happy, its all that matters...

Hehe...I agree, was beginning to think the same thing.

"I'm sure there are plenty of people who got into MSU honors that didnt get into UofM."

Pure myth.

Your original thread title is, and I quote, "A good safety?" - they answered your question, it's not a safety, it's more of a match.

That people in MSU Honors didn't get to U-M or people in MSU Honors got into U-M? It's not a myth. I'm 100% sure that there are people who got into U-M that go to MSU Honors, and I'm positive that there are people who didn't get into U-M that are in MSU Honors.

To add on to the list, the only person I know for sure who is in Honors at MSU didn't get in to Michigan originally (don't know if he applied for music or engineering). He did get accepted for transfer halfway through sophomore year, but decided to stay at State.

I' could buy that there are a lot of kids in MSU Honors that didn't get into U-M. In fact, I have a friend from high school who won MSU's Alumni Distinguished Scholarship (their most prestigious scholarship, full ride), who was not accepted to Michigan.

Face it, there are a lot of kids at MSU who are there because they didn't get in to Michigan. To think that a portion of this pool doesn't overlap with their Honors college doesn't sound right to me.

Just as an aside, and personal pet peeve, admissions qualifications (gpa, test scores, EC's) are not relevant when it comes to the ADS. The ADS is awarded purely on the basis of a (trivia) test administered at MSU to certain admitted freshman. The highest scorers get the full ride. So to a large extent, MSU disregards your complete high school record in favor of an appearance on MSU Jeopardy.

p.s. It's definitely a match, not a safety. But I like the advice already given - get your application in 9/1, get your results back fast and it becomes your safety.

The girl in question had a 36 on the ACT as well.
