Is U of M a safety or a match?

I would like to go to U of M for science possibly engineering. I am a rising junior and last year I got a 31 ACT and I have a 4.0 uw. Took an unusually hard class load for my school. We don't rank but if we did I'd be top 5 percent for sure. Lots of volunteer work with autistic children, swimming for 3 years, NHS cum laude award in progress, been in girl scouts since first grade and I am working on my gold award. I am a self taught guitarist in a band. I do school league floor hockey for four years. Various awards from my school. I go to school in Michigan, one that sends a good quater of graduating class to U of M. I did a summer camp at MSU cyclotron too. Would U of M be considered a safety or a match for me?

match imo (10char)

You’ll get in easy. Id admit u just based on floor hockey

safety, michigan has like a 50% acceptance rate

apply to another safety too just in case though

Match,
your ACT is too low to be a safety
and even though it has a “50%” acceptance rate, it is a public university and only like half of those kids actually end up attending

Other than the “you should never consider a top XX school a safety” issue, you can probably consider it one. If you’re really worried you can apply somewhere else too, but you’re likely to get in.

Umm, what does its yield have to do with whether it’s a safety or match, wolverinewhiz? The point is they accept 50% of applicants, and he has a 4.0 GPA with a 31 ACT, well above the average accepted applicant. People that are saying it’s a match view Michigan’s selectivity too highly.

^A 31 ACT is merely average for Engineering.

And keep in mind that that 31 is from 10th grade, the first ad only time I’ve taken it.

I was assuming LSA, but he did say possibly engineering. I would say LSA = safety, engineering = match for you.

Well I know plenty of kids who have been rejected with 3.9/4.0s and with 33 ACTs and many ECs so I would never actually say a school is a safety for anyone. You never know what the admissions office is going to do.

Plenty of kids rejected with 3.9-4.0’s with 33’s and many EC’s? -_-

you’re in, don’t sweat it. just right decent essays and you’re in.

Well you always do better the second time you take the ACT. What was you math score, that can be important too.

33 on the math

Safety 10chr

"Plenty of kids rejected with 3.9-4.0’s with 33’s and many EC’s? -_- "
I can count more than 10 just from my school which is a top 5 public high school in Michigan

That’s weird because my school isn’t top five, but we did get a silver medal, whatever that counts for, still a little less than a quater of the ha class of 2010 went to U of M. I am within the top five percent of my class, I would estimate because we don’t rank. Then again, I am under he impression that my school has a close relationship with U of M as far as how well they know the strength if our cirriculum, from what the GCs say at least.

^^Just curious, how many kids in your graduating class IsaacM?

Not more than 300. maybe 250
