Tom...you seem like a real deutsche bag.

pbgator,
i understand, if you can't logically attack the argument, go ahead and attack the person. that's the sign of a truly dashing intellect.

"It's a lot NOT alot. And they reject 1500 SAT applicants to accept you? WOW!"

You are also a hypocrite.

Get over yourself. UF is very overrated, it is not the Harvard of the South as they call it when you go on the campus tour. If you want to talk about underrated, let's compare apples to oranges, and discuss the University of Miami.

Miami has a lousy endowment, and their graduate programs can't even stack up against Florida State. Also I have never once heard a UF student call the school the Harvard of the South (it's usually the local yokels who make the argument to pi$$ off the local yokels from Tallahassee).

Hahaha That's a joke. Miami's MBA program is ranked within the Top 25 in the nation and their Med. school is one of the toughest in South, and to say the least, the nation.

UF's MBA program is ranked 34th overall. UM's isn't ranked at all.

In addition, UF's Medical school is ranked 48th overall, whereas UM's is only 52nd overall.

LOOOL pwnd

"You are also a hypocrite"

I was introducing evidence to support my argument, how is that hypocritical? You should learn the rules of argumentation before you engage in one.

lets stop the arguing b/c its getting kinda nasty. But I have another point that I would like to bring up and that is that UF tuition is pretty low compared to many other top public universities that I have listed below. The fact is that because the state government is unwilling to adequately fund education the tuition needs to be increased for both in state and out of state and as much as I would like to be able to go to school for free on bright futures it makes more sense for b/c if UF tuition was raised to about 5 or 6 grand what in state students would be paying for tuition would still be less than what many other top public schools cost.
In state Out of State
UFL 3790 21400
UNC- CH 3700 20603
UVA 9400 29790
U Texas 8090–9354 26672–30770
U Michigan 11037-12034 33069-35061
UC Berkley 8932 28932
(the only unc's tuition is so low is because NC spends much more money on education than Fl also it know it would be unpopular but i think bright futures should be need based because its draining money from the state budget that could be used to improve programs)

In regards to the Bright Futures Scholarship:

I believe we should stop giving out 75% benefits for future students with only a 970's on the SAT. This is like the bottom 30th percentile for all test takers nationally. Why are we investing in students who need remediation? Bottom line if a student gets less that a 1100 on the SAT then we should not give them a penny.

If these substandard students need money, then they need to turn to President Obama's new scholarship that pays for service hours performed (It's like $4,000 a year I believe).

The state of Florida should stop investing in Mediocrity!

Glad to have you back, SSo!

Glad to be back. Someone has to hold the yahoo's in the capitol & UF admissions accountable!

How was this an argument if I never said anything back?

Anyways, I am back, because Tom and AT9 think I'm a very stupid person.

AT9, you say that life isn't fair. And, wow, you're absolutely right. I had originally felt bad for the person who got rejected (and I still feel bad about that) over his female african-american friend, but hey, according to you, AT9, Life isn't fair. "All of this 'fair' stuff is crap." Therefore, you have just justified UF. Why didn't you tell him that, too?

I believe that any student who does excellent in school, no matter how white or rich they may be, should get accepted into the college of their choosing. If they don't, there's other universities out there which will gladly accept such a qualified student.

And, UF is not the greatest place in the world, either. I can name a couple alternatives which are just as good, if not better than UF. And also, for the most part you get out of college what you put in. One could do just as fine at FSU, its not a bad place at all. So if UF doesn't want you, go somewhere else and make them regret it. I bet UF would love to claim Myron Rolle.

However, in the case of an economically disadvantaged person(regardless of race), I believe he should also be accepted. But, only if said person is also a great student (but not necessarily as good as the best applicants). The reason being, through his grades, this student has shown that he is very motivated, has not let his economic situation become a hinderance, and if given the same opportunity as everyone else, he could be just as good a student and a great contributor to society.

I apologize if I came out racist. I actually have a very diverse mix of friends which I see daily, for example: indian, jamaican, polish, chinese, nigerian, irish, russian, hatian, and korean. Given that everybody has biases, I treat them all as if I'm colorblind, or at least as much as I'm consciously aware of.

And also, tom, individual attention is one thing that a book cannot give, but $2500 can pay for. Just saying.
