I’m from the UK and applying to college in the US. Does anybody know if A levels can be used to claim college credit like APs can? Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I wasn’t sure where to put it. Thanks for any help.
Hi I’m a US Citizen studying in India, from what my school has told me as well as what I have learnt from university fairs. A levels can transfer credits worth up to a year thus you may be able to save a year of college depending on your grades.
If you have any other questions feel free to ask.
HorsesArePeople2 thanks for the information. My grades are pretty good - I’ve been prediscted AAA*A in my four A levels. Do you think that could make up for a year if I were to actually achieve that? Thanks again
Each college and university that awards credit and/or advanced placement for A level exams will have this posted right on its website. It also is OK to ask the international admissions office at each place on your list about that institution’s policy. This is the sort of thing that varies quite a bit from one institution to another, and that can change from one year to another, so you do need to ask them directly.
My son is receiving 24 credits for 3 A2 exams and 1 AS exam (the latter course is one that he did not take at A2). This is 80% of a whole year’s credits. The policy will vary by each school but should be on the school’s website.
Thanks to both of you for the info - I will contact the colleges for which I am applying and it sounds as if A levels contribute to quite a few credits.
Good luck.
