Well, like many other students, I too was waitlisted for Georgetown SFS and am feeling dejected/hopeless as ever since it was my first choice. On the waiting list fact sheet, it basically says that no one was considered from the Waiting List in 2006 and 2004 (except for NHS). I would be positively ecstatic if I got into SFS, but there seems to be little to no chance so should I just give up entirely on SFS and pursue an international studies major at JHU? Also. how does Georgetown's SFS compare to JHU's IS program?

JHU is AMAZING I think you should go there. Their int'l rel program is... wow. It's... sighs contentedly
So are you turning down your spot on the wait list?

Sadly, no. (I'm sorry I'm taking up a space on the waitlist though!!) Anyways, the thing is I would give up JHU for Gtown in a heartbeat, mainly cause of location and the awesomeness of SFS lol. I've decided to idealistically hope that a slot will open up in SFS and perhaps they'll take pity on me (haha, yea right). I saw on the other thread that you were waitlisted too.. which school did you apply for?

^^^haha. Looks like someone else is also trying to get off the waitlist.

Even if you have little chance of getting off the waitlist, if Georgetown really is your #1, you should stay on it. Send updates, a letter reaffirming your interest, 3rd quarter grades, WHATEVER-- but in the meantime, be glad you got into JHU (really selective this year!) and enroll there. That way, you know you'll be going somewhere great next year, and GU might just surprise you!

Good luck!

(For clarification:
"^^^haha. Looks like someone else is also trying to get off the waitlist." referred to poster #2, not the OP)

Darn straight, AOT. And I'm going to do it, too. Just watch.

Good advice, too.

Veronica-- I applied for SFS, but I'm not looking for pity from them. Georgetown is my soulmate school. I believe that 100%. I spent three weeks there the summer before my junior year, and after visiting, interviewing, getting to know alums, etc., I am not hopeless.

I know that I will bust my ass to prove my interest and worth to Georgetown, because I deeply believe that Georgetown and I are soulmates. That's not to say I'm not dejected; just last night I realized that being waitlisted is like being broken up with then led on-- leading to more pain, unsatisfiable lust, and frustration. I also believe that I can win them back.

Do you know how many were waitlisted?

(And for the record- I'm pro jhu because I have many friends there, but I personally chose not to apply because I'd prefer to look at their international studies center for graduate school. That said, Mazel Tov on your acceptance!)

I know how you feel, ccbchunks! I fell in heartbreakingly in love with the school as well. I think it's undoubtedly the perfect place for me especially since I want to pursue my passion for IR. The thing is.. now I'm just incredibly downhearted by the fact that I'll have to wait more than a month to know if I'm worthy of getting in or not, and even worse.. the chances are slim to none, gah!

Anyways, you sound incredibly passionate about the school and I really envy your conviction to get off the waitlist - hopefully it'll become a reality for both of us!

Regarding the waitlist, I'm not really sure but according to the RD official results, at least 10 CC people were waitlisted (though I dont know which schools they applied to). I'm hoping that more people will choose to go to the Ivies or something so they open up more slots and people can actually get off the WL this year!

By the way, thanks for the support on JHU lol :D

Veronica: my D also got into JHU and waitlisted at Georgetown; similar situation. Feel for you, but JHU is top notch so be proud you got in. Good luck whichever way you go...where are you from?

I'm from Hawaii, actually :)! Caruth, may I ask.. is your daughter also studying IR?

The reason that they didn't accept anyone off the waitlist last year was because of a significantly higher yield than expected. It an all actuality, they enrolled far more students than they were supposed to. This year, I am sure they were much more conscience and accepted fewer people and pushed more on to the waitlist. How many get off the waitlist is purely a function of how many decide to come. Keep in mind that Georgetown just had a Final Four appearance - so yield may be higher (although the Admissions Office should have taken this into account). I would guess that several people will be taken off the waitlist this year.

VERONICA!!!!
OMG!!!!
I am on the extended waitlist!!! are you?

ccbchunks: my daughter is also on the extended waitlist, and I just sent her housing deposit into JHU. I wish this insanity was over...looking over your posts from 6 weeks ago, I have to recommend you let go of this whole "soulmate" thing. I don't buy it for people and I don't buy it for schools! Go where you are wanted and desired and VALUED and you will have a great experience. That goes for relationships too.
