Just wondering abt my chances :)

Your Ecs look great, just get a decent SAT score and you will be fine. Good luck!

Really BAD post number Ernie H. Hope your evening is not beastly!!

The 666 thing could lead you to develop an affinity for socialism--NOT

lol@plamettoman

thanks for your reply :)

ok i guess I have a problem now...In my Class Xi( high school junior year) I have got a avg. of 70% marks :( Though I have been scoring excellently in my previous classes

Will this affect my application cos I read that School records are the most important thing that Princeton evaluates! Though even with this score I am in the top 20% of my class

Are you saying that you are getting Cs and Ds this year? If that is the case, you had better look at other, less competitive colleges.

it will affect your app significantly... but are your final exams done yet? you still have chance to pull up that average i guess..

i dunno if i can improve much....My final exams are in march what if i pull off a really decent percentage in that? u know the best of the marks in all?

The reason behind all this are the other activites I had been concenterating on the NAtional Cyber Olympiad 2nd round

there is gotta be some other way to compensate for this..like I plan to apply for early decision and by November I will be in Class XII and will have 2 exams on Class XII by then... what if i show damn improvement by then?

crap!!! just read no ED for princeton this year....ok what if I bang the SAT subject tests? ;)

hey I just checked out the equivalent grades I dont get a C or D for any, I get a B for my lousy ones! :D :D

What is a 70% average, then? In the US, A and A- are between 90 and 100%, Bs are between 80 and 89%, Cs are between 70 and 79%. The only way a US student would have a 70% average is to get Cs and Ds. (Or Fs and Bs.)

Top 20% of a class is usually not enough to get into Princeton. Top 10% is usually the minimum, with top 5% more likely. Of course, it all depends on what kind of school you attend and how big it is. A small, elite private school that sends many students to US Ivies can get students who are further down in the class into top schools.

I hate to be negative, but a lousy junior year in high school usually rules out the very top US universities. Still, there are many others that offer excellent educations.

Well I have around 60 students in my class mate. I just cant let Princeton slip through. I have always wanted to study in Princeton all the way.....

Wont the SATII tests matter? By the application time I will have given around 4 more school exams. What about the percentage in those mate?

The problem is that Princeton could fill three classes with guys who were always perfect, are perfect and will always be perfect.

I don't say that you don't have a chance to get in and many many perfect scorers are rejected, however, you don't have a fighting chance. You may still get in because they are searching for someone or something in a person which you present, but the stats are against you.

It's fine that you concentrate on other things, push forward your ECs but Pton somehow expects you to manage this while still being a top student. Don't get me wrong: I don't want to diminish your accomplishments whatsoever and I am far from being one of those perfect scorers and graders.

But you should know what the situation looks like. As said: It's not that they needed to take someone who slightly failed once... One student said (on this board): Welcome to Princeton, the place where your best effort is not enough since 17xx.

I guess you are right mate. I just have the following plan on my mind now:

Score the best in the upcoming exam.

Get a reallly good score on the SAT and SATII

Then go for it...

Well I'd just mention that 70% in the ISC system's not really comparable to what you'd think. Although it is low, grading systems in India tend to depend based upon the school; some schools (although I'm not sure ajayc's in one of them) practice grade deflation particularly in the junior and senior years.

I'd suppose in such a situation the ICSE/ISC board examinations (external common examinations conducted by a central board for all schools in the syllabus) would be more important. Just thought I'd mention it.

if that is the case, it might be good to take some more standardized tests, to show that your 70% can actually measure up to A-range scores in the US

if you can take AP exams and get a string of 5s, that would probably be enough to offset the 70%. also, a counselor explanation would help

Well would taking AP exams and getting real good marks help me out?
btw will I be able to appear for AP exam before September this year independently?

full stats:

So here are the statistics:

Class IX Scores(Grade 9):

English : 92%(A)

Hindi(Native Lang) : 88.5%(A)

Mathematics : 88.1%(A)

Science (Phy, Chem, Bio combined) : 95%(A)

Social Studies(includes Geography, History, Civics) : 83.3%(A)

Physical Education : A

Computer Science : A

Rank : 1st

Class X(Grade 10):

1.English : 90% (A)
2. Hindi : 63%(Oops) (B)
3. Mathematics : 87 (A)
4. Science
- Practicals - 25/25
- Theory - 72/75
Total% -> 97%(A)
5. Social Science
- Project Work - 20/20
- Theory - 73/80
Total% -> 93% (A)

Work Experience : A

Physical Education : A

Well in Class XI I have an avg of 75% but my final exams are not over yet, they are in march. And I guess just final exam scores matter as they have max marks as 100 and they cover the whole curriculum.

And yes my full list of ECs:
