Hey there!
I was wondering if anyone would have any insight as to the prospects of what I could be looking at for college (I’m sorry if this comes off as a huge amount of anxiety, I am just really nervous) I currently have a 3.71 UW gpa (5 honors) (maximum amount) overall (Including a theology class ((If that counts)) and I was wondering if this is OK for a good college (Mid %50 of accepted students?) I generally score well on the PSAT (90% or above). I am also in speech and debate, Science Club, and Philosophy Club (Will be joining mock trial). I just finished up freshman year and I was/am a little worried. (I would like to go into business, preferably accounting).
The colleges I would like to go to (This will probably change, but just a general idea)
Boston College
Boston University
UW Madison
University of Michigan
University of Minnesota- Twin Cites
University of Washington
Indiana University- Bloomington (Kelley)
university of Illinois urbana-champaign
Just trying to get a realistic picture, sorry if I come off as uninformed.
Don’t worry too much right now, you still have a long way to go until college applications.
For now, I would really try to get that GPA up. If you’re willing to, start studying for the SAT/ACT now and you’ll be thanking yourself later. Try to get some leadership positions in your extra-curricular activities. It is hard to give you an accurate picture of your chances since you’re only in freshman year, but follow the advice above and you will be that much more prepared come senior year. Good luck!
Thanks SJN, and yea, I am going to go for a much higher GPA next year (luckily I have a bunch of classes in subjects I really enjoy!) and I am going for team captain in speech and debate. I was just looking for some advice on what I should be doing/looking to do, and this seemed like the place to get it! Thank you once again :D.
A key thing to discuss as you start looking at colleges is the cost. Every college has a net price calculator on their website. You can enter your family financial info, and they give you an estimate of the cost. One thing to know is that public universities rarely give much financial aid to students who live in other states, and they charge more to out of state students. So it can be challenging to pay for public universities in other states.
