Being bored as I sometimes am, I was checking out some of the past posts I've made on CC and came across these two threads that I posted on this very forum a LONG while back:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=6357
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=18616

I look at everyone's responses and just have to laugh at some of them. Of the schools I mention in the above threads, I didn't apply to Cornell at the end (only because of personal factors). But I did apply to all the others.

According to those who posted responses, some were reaches, some were safeties, some were 50% chances, some were random.

Well, as it turned out, I got accepted to all the schools I applied to. Even the one that someone said I couldn't get into because of where I lived.

My point here (aka what I've learned from this whole college application process) is don't take people's opinions about "your chances" too seriously. Everyone here is certainly willing to help, and they'll post as honest an opinion as they possible can. But just because one person says "you're out of state, so you probably can't get in" shouldn't mean the end of the line for that school. Go with your own mind, and apply as your mind wants to.

Good luck to all HS Seniors this year on your applications.
