Am I the only one mind boggled by the "I chance back!" posts? I mean clearly if you can chance someone else, you can chance yourself. Seems like the people who chance back know exactly where there chances lay and seem to prefer being consumed by a false sense of hope/pride by asking others to chance them.

it’s either they need an ego boost or they decide not to learn about the college admissions process through searching Google.

so true, so true!

Exactly! I see “2350 4.0 awesome EC” okay so far so good…and then…“Can I get into Yale?!” Aagghh! What the hell! Clearly you know you stand a chance but how the heck can we tell you about YALE admissions? I see the same applicant on, say, a Drexel forum and I’m like…jump off a cliff. (No one specific, just a hypothetical example)

Or they have too much skin in the game to chance themselves. I chanced 900+ kids this year alone and I can tell you this much: having too much skin in the admissions game can make one feel uncomfortable.

Chances threads are just a way to brag about your accomplishments. People know if they stand a chance, they just want others to know they stand a chance as well.

Not always; I might have chanced 900+ kids, yet some of these 900 got a reality check on CC.

^ There’s always some exceptions but for the most part from what I’ve seen people know they have a good chance.

With a little research, they can find out if they stand a good chance academically.

In terms of ECs, recommendations, and essays, no one really knows except an adcom.
