I go to your typical overcrowed public high school. Not really my choice. Going on my school offers only five ap classes which isn't a really good amount at all. I was wondering if your school offers a lot of AP classes and which classes would it be really easy to self study for. And what books would you recommend for that subject. Or would it be easier just to take college classes at my community college... which isn't very hard at all.

I feel your pain... :) My school only offers about four AP classes! To be honest, I'm not completely sure, but according to people here at CC most APs (except the major ones) can be pretty easy to self study. Again, it all depends on your specific strengths and preferences. Personally, I doubt I'd be able to study AP Physics, AP Chem, or AP Calculus on my own, because math isn't my strong suit. Another option you can consider is taking online AP courses. I'll be doing that this semester. One place I recommend is UCCP (www.uccp.org) and Apex Learning (www.apexlearning.com). You can still get credit from your school when you take them online... :)

my school only offer 8, and this is rediculous. Science dept. is willing to offer AP physics B, but no many kids sign up for it, so it never will. However, they still offer bio and chem, so it's not bad because other departments are worse! social studies dept. only offers AP USH, and that's the only challeging social science course; all they offer is like some weak 9-week "phycology" or "Criminal and Family Law". Math department only offers AP calc AB, and I'm sure there are kids who can take BC too, but too bad because our math department likes to dumb kids down by passing kids who shouldn't be passing at all. The only good thing is that we still offer basic 8 classes: bio, chem, lang, lit, french, spanish, us history, and calc AB. But I wish them to offer more!

Self study in your best subject, whatever that is. Also, although self-studying is great and really adds to what colleges see as initiative, colleges will be aware that you weren't offered a ton of APs. It's not like they think you only chose five out of 15 offered. They know that you took advantage of what yo had. Jut take all the classes available!

My school offers a lot of AP and IB classes. You should self study a subject that you actually like.

Lol. My high school offers only THREE AP classes (AP Calc, AP Euro History, AP US History), and they are primarily intended for seniors- VERY few juniors take them. In fact, AP Calc isn't even offered for non-seniors. However, we do have all of the level 2 science courses like bio, chem, physics, and these are supposed to be the equivalent of AP. But trust me- my high school is regarded as very "good" and competitive. In fact, we are supposed to be the best in a county that has 15 other schools. It is competitive for sure, but I'm not so sure about the "good."

And you guys thought your high schools were bad because they offer 8 AP courses:)
