AP Classes, Etc.

Hello!

I'm from a tiny school in upstate new York, that only offers three AP classes (biology, english lit/comp, and us history). I'm trying to figure out how I can take more AP classes.

First- AP Physics: I'll be taking a college-level physics course this year. If I do a lot of extra studying on my own, do you think I could be able to score well on this test? Also, is there a lab requirement that I would need to take? I already know physics very well, so I would like to challenge myself.

Second- AP Chemistry: My school still will not approve this! My aunt is an AP chemistry teacher and she agreed to help me through this. Would this be a good idea? Is there a lab requirement? I received a 99 overall average this year in chemistry.

Third- Any other AP classes that I could teach myself and/or take an online class for?

I'm so bored at my school- I breezed through AP Biology with a 100 average and a 5 on the exam.

I'm trying to get into MIT, Columbia, or Duke!

Easier AP classes to self study are Human Geo and Psychology.

When applying to these schools, rigor of your schedule counts. They will not view it negatively if your school only offers three AP classes and you took all three of the classes.

Though, doing extra work on your own could definitely help. I’m not sure how self studying is viewed – but extra online classes do show a sort of academic independence, as does taking a college level course.

Thanks! AP Psych looks interesting! I’ll have to check that out. And it doesn’t seem like it would take me a full year to learn. :)

ap psych can be studied for in 3 days. i did it this year. probably spent 8-10 hours per day, earned a 5.
ap human geography is very easy as well. i studied one night (7 hours) and earned a 4. so you can definitely get a 5 with more time.
micro and macro econ are also good self-studies, if you are good at logic and graphs

I didn’t want to open a new thread so I’m posting this here.

Can you rank the following AP classes in order of difficulty?

AP Human Geography
AP English Language and Composition
AP US Government and Politics
AP Physics B
AP Calculus AB
AP Macroeconomics
AP Microeconomics
AP Statistics and Probability

Try taking classes at your local community college.

From what i have heard ap human geo and ap econ is relatively easy… I took ap gov this year… It was so difficult for me… But then again im a math/ science guy

^^^
From hardest to easiest:

AP Physics B
AP Calculus AB
AP Stats
AP Macro
AP Micro
AP Lang
AP Gov
AP Human Geography

I wouldn’t say Econ is an easy test; it has a pretty harsh curve. Human Geography can be done just by reading Barron’s the week before.

Lang is weird because it isn’t testing any acquired knowledge; it’s testing a skill.
