A&M and UT Admissions.

So, I was wondering what my chances are. I have been receiving a lot of mixed answers. A little back story before the numbers. I go to the #6th ranked best catholic high school in the USA, freshman year I was not taking my ADHD medication and suffered a 3 month concussion that set me back in every single class. I attended summer school. I believe my GPA was around a 2.3 or 2.4 that year. I also had very close to the maximum number of detentions that year. The next year, I started taking low dose ADHD medication. First semester had a 2.99 and no AP classes. Mid Way through second semester, I was the first person ever to transfer into an AP after the deadline for changing in school history. I had to argue for 5 days with everyone in charge to get there. If I did not have an A they said they would kick me out. They told me I would do horrible and all my classes grades would go down. I ended up getting an A, and ended that year with a 3.45 and on honor roll for the first time. I also had very little detentions. This year, a junior, I perfected my dosage and was ready to prove people wrong. I take AC Data Structures and AP environmental science, and first semester obtained a 4.14 GPA, making the Principal’s honor roll. I currently have a 4.04 and managed to win the English award out of my entire class. My first ACT i took without extended time and didn’t finish. I got a 27. I also did not get any sleep or any prep. The next time I took it my scores were:
34 English
32 Reading
28 Science
27 Math
30 Composite
9/12 Essay

I also run my own business and have made upwards of $30,000 in 2 years from it, while managing school work. I love making money, which is why I want to Major in Business and minor in Comp Sci. I am taking the ACT again in june with more test prep, three times a week every week, but I do not know what I will get. My cumulative will most likely be a 3.1 or 3.2 by the end of the year, but Junior Year first semester was a 4.14 and i have a 4.0 right now before finals, which hopefully will bring it up. With all this information, do y’all think I have a shot at these schools? Most people envy my GPA and my come back story, almost doubling my GPA, but do colleges really care if my cumulative is so bad? Forgot to mention, I did football and soccer freshman year. Wrestled for my sophomore and junior year until I got injured and currently need surgery on my knee, but I do not plan on going back after surgery. 160 hours of community service(required by school) and have gone to a lot of summer camps for computer science and hopefully a business camp this summer!

If my chances are bad, let me know. Do not sugar coat it. I want honesty!

low at UT but I would say solid at T A&M

I agree with @kjake2000 . TAMU is a possibility while UT is a very far reach.

As a UT student I have to agree with those above

What would my ACT need to be at in order for my admittance to A&M be like 90%?

What’s your class rank?

Also use the @RMNiMiTz (type it the way it looks) so I get notified.

@RMNiMiTz my school does not rank. My Cumulative is 3.1 after this semester hopefully so my rank wont be very good, thats why i was asking cause I have a 4.14 and 4.0 so far this year and 30 ACT.

So your cumulative GPA is 3.1? I would say both are a bit of a reach. Your test scores are good but UT(not sure about TAMU, I never applied there) cares a LOT about rank and if you don’t have a rank they will probably put more emphasis on your GPA,which is low there. I think it’s around top 10- top 7% that get in at UT, which at my school is around 3.8-4.0 GPA.

Are the 4.14 and 4.0 based on the semesters? If so it will probably raise your GPA a bit. I had a 4.0 all of senior year and my GPA went from 3.3 to almost 3.5. If you can write a good essay about your experiences it will probably help a bit, and your high test scores are a plus. If you do get in, don’t expect much aid. You may not need much since you have all that money from your business, but the COA at UT is around 26k a year iirc, and at TAMU it is around 27K.

If your school is a non-ranking school, then you will be competing for the small number of spots at each school that are not used for automatic admission (top 7% Texas resident at UT Austin, top 10% Texas resident or top 25% with high enough test scores at Texas A&M). With a 3.1 to 3.2 GPA, you should consider both school reaches, since you will be competing in a pool of applicants which includes many with much higher GPAs (from non-ranking schools, or non-Texas residents with respect to UT Austin).

Is that 3.1 weighted to unweighted?

Just an update on this thread now that i am doing my college essays: My junior year gpa 1st semester was a 4.14. Second semester I finished with a 4.09. That brought my cumulative up to a 3.16. I took the ACT again for the last time and got a 31. i had a 2.1 freshman, 3.1 sophomore, 4.1 junior. Senior year is now here, and I plan on being a 4.0 student again. Have my chances changed at all? I was not taking any ADD medicine freshman year and i had a 3 month concussion that stopped me from doing any work. I go to the 5th hardest catholic high school in the nation right now, and one of the best private schools. “Strake Jesuit College Preparatory” is the name. Every teacher and college counselor calls me the biggest turn around in the school’s history. Whenever I won the award for english in front of the entire school, you could hear a “what?!” from every teacher and student in the crowd, because the only thing they remember about me is my awful freshman year. How are my chances looking as of now? I got a 34 english, 32 reading, 28 math, 29 science. I am in the 99th percentile for my english score, 91st percentile for math, 93rd percentile for science, and 94th percentile for reading. My 31 composite puts me at the 96th percentile for all test scores, meaning only 4% of all people who took the act included in the official chart they posted scored higher than me, which i think is really good. I want to go into business and minor in either comp sci or engineering. How are my chances now?

Correction** those percentiles were all data from anyone who took the act during 2014, 2015, and 2016.
