I am asking for someone who wants to go into med, but wants a backup plan in case interests change. Thoughts?

A&M probably has more options since it's so much bigger and is a university, not a liberal arts college but both have a lot of other majors/fields of study to choose from if that some one decides to change his/her mind.

Very, very different schools! It depends a lot on if your friend wants a large school, or a smaller one. A&M has a lot more culture/pride than Austin College, from what I’ve heard. Academically, both are great for med. A&M does have a med school, though, so that would make it prime.

actually if you look at the med-school admissions pages…then you’d realize that med schools prefer students who didnt go to the same undergrad institution…

also all that matters for med school is your gpa and mcat

if you feel that the smaller austin college will help you focus better…then by all means go there! i’ve heard that liberal arts colleges hold your hand unlike big schools like TAMU

I’m just referencing the resources related to med school preparation that TAMU has, unlike a liberal arts school like Austin College. If you feel like you need your hand held, go to Austin College. If you’re ready to be on your own and deal with a bigger school, TAMU’s great. The environment you’ll be comfortable in is a big deal.
