A new BA in MT program

There are not that many BA programs in Musical Theater and I know from time to time that topic comes up here, either for those seeking a BA and not a BFA or those who want some BA "back ups" who have primarily BFA programs on their list. I thought I would mention a new MT program that is a BA which was announced in the news in my state.

It is at Johnson State College. There was already a theater program there and I have seen a musical there in the past. Now, they have formed a BA in MT degree program.

Here is a link to that program. It should be on the Big List (Vermont has no schools on the Big List!):

<a href="http://www.jsc.edu/Academics/FineAndPerformingArts/MusicalTheater.aspx%5B/url%5D">http://www.jsc.edu/Academics/FineAndPerformingArts/MusicalTheater.aspx</a></p>

Thanks! I couln't find information on the JSC site as to whether this was an auditioned program or not. Do you know?

Kat

Kat, I cannot say for certain, but I also see nothing about auditions on their site and my guess is....since the BA in Theater was likely not by audition, neither is the BA in MT. This is not a fact, but an assumption. Even under their admissions link, there is nothing about any programs requiring auditions. Thus, this is an option for those who either want a BA in MT, or are looking to balance their audition based college list with some non audition programs in MT, of which there are not that many.

soozie I tried to send you a PM a couple days ago but your message box was full. Is there any chance I could send you an email or you could empty yours out a bit? Thanks, Jazzguitar.

Jazzguitar,

I'm sorry. My PM box constantly fills up and so I prefer email. I actually have received an e mail from you. I am sorry I haven't yet responded. I will try to now. I was out of town when you wrote as we were picking our daughters up from college and have also been celebrating Mother's Day a day late and now unpacking and spending time together. With work emails, I haven't kept up with the many other emails that come in. I will try to respond tonight.

o please dont rush! i wasnt sure if you got it or not, is all (i know all too well how things become lost in cyberspace). Take your time please, but thank you for giving me some advice.

I did write you back.

I BELIEVE (not 100% certain) that Castleton State (again, in VT) is also working in a new BA MT program. I don't think it's finalized quite yet, but I've heard from faculty that it is in process.

Sporti...interesting and good to know about Castleton. Johnson State's MT Program is a definite. It was announced in the news this spring and is all set up. I know Castleton has theater. I didn't know about the MT in the works. I know students from our HS who have gone to Castleton for theater. Thanks.

Johnson State College is now on the Big List. Three cheers for Vermont!

Thanks, doctorjohn. Vermont is on the "map". Thanks for all of your help and being such a great resource on this forum.
