What happens if you get a 1 on an AP exam? Do you not get the AP credit at all (no weighted grade)? What are the consequences?

I got a 2 on the AP Chem test last year, still got into college. You don't get credit for any grade less than a 3 (and sometimes no credit for a 3). I would assume colleges look down on low AP grades because that is just logical.

Oh, no -- I'm a senior. I'm into college and have no plans to major in the subjects that I'm worried about.

and my GPA will be fine without the weight, but I'm just wondering if a really low score could hurt me in any major way.

looking for answers at 12:30 in the am. wOOt.

it doesn't affect your gpa in any way. you just don't get the credit.

and for juniors (like me) you get to face the disparagement of college admissions officers.

yes, im nervous about bio too.

=(

Consequences? You wasted (or your parents wasted) $95...

BewareOfNerd - You have to pay $95/test? That sucks.. :(

dropofwater - Are you worried about not receiving college credit? Or high school credit? A failing grade is not going to affect your high school credit. (Or, at least, not at my school..) Different schools may have different systems, but for my school, our weighted AP point is given as long as you pass the course with a C or better, and it doesn't matter what you receive on the actual AP test itself. (Most kids at my school failed AP Chem our sophomore year, but still got the extra AP point for their GPA.) If you fail the exam, you just won't receive college credit (assuming that your college takes AP credit in the first place because some don't). Like BewareOfNerd pointed out, the only real consequence (as a senior) is wasted money, IMO. A failing AP score (but passing AP course grade) will not affect admission in any way. If your college's condition of admission comments on a failing AP score having an affect on admission, you can always cancel your score.

Yeah, we have to pay full price unless we qualify for reduced prices if we are within a certain range of the poverty limit (150% of it, i think). Our school provides no aid otherwise, because our district already has a several million deficit, so we cant afford it. How much did others have to pay for it (not reduction b/c of financial need)?

Winterpolaris - No, I was simply concerned about my high school GPA being affected negatively or losing HS credit. I've already done well enough to warrant credit/exemption from intro classes in the subjects that I most want to study come next fall.

BewareofNerd - Our school system pays for the exams. I don't feel like I've wasted their money -- I've studied as much as I can at this point and plan to do the best I can tomorrow (unless I never get to bed, which is a very real possibility). It's a real bummer than your school doesn't pay, though -- which exams are you taking/have you already taken?

Thank you, everyone, for the information at such a late hour (I love CC). It's a real load off my mind.

I didn't have any aid, and I only paid $82/test.

I thought AP tests only cost $82? I don't know, though, because my school pays for all my exams.

God I can't believe some of you get your tests paid for! I thought paying $82 a test was something every student did.

As for getting a 1, it really isn't that big of a deal. It's one of those getting a high score will help you, getting a low won't hurt you, except for the money.

Yeah, don't worry about it. If you're already in college, it shouldn't matter.

If you're a junior, though, it would have an impact, especially if you were doing well in the class before (though I think if you weren't doing well in the first place, that wouldn't help much, either!)

in what way would it have an impact if youre a junior? dont collleges only seee the scores you write on the application for anyway?

If you're listing AP courses, and they're going to be on your transcripts many colleges want to know what the grade was. Your school may also include a copy of your AP test grades with your transcript, I think mine does, in which case hiding a low grade could be pretty difficult.

According to the AP booklet, you can pay to have a score withheld from a particular college. It will probably still show up on your transcript, though.

dude if u get a 1... then obviously ur class was dumb and colleges will think it's the teacher.

i mean, using a barron's book is retarded. you should just review for the class and take the exam as extra.

If you get a 1, that doesn't necessarily reflect the teacher's ability.

My Chemistry II class has 30+ students and only five or so took the exam seriously. We'll probably make on the upper end of 3s, 4s, and 5s, whereas the others who didn't care will make 1s without a doubt. Our teacher was AWESOME. It hurts me to think that so many did not take advantage of being in her class. So if somehow college advisors were to actually know that someone made a 1 on the AP test even though he/she was in my class, they'd know that that person was dumb, not the teacher.

Our county(Fairfax) pays for all the APs exams for students(registered classes). Good thing we're a rich county!

Aw, man... back in my day, AP exams cost 75 bucks. =

Doing poorly on an AP exam will likely have virtually no consequences for you. Don't worry about it. All they can do is help you.

(Aside from that, it's hard to get a 1 on an AP... You'll be okay.)

what if i have A's in ap lang

and i score decent...30 in english and reading

but i get a 1 or 2 in the AP lang exam.

what does that mean??

...what will colleges thinK?
