Colleges evidently like to see high scores in AP and IB classes. Schools such as Brown would be even more likely to focus on these scores to separate the great from the good.

What if your school doesn’t offer these programs? I would apply here, but without these seemingly crucial AP classes, I doubt they’d give me the time of day.

I went to a school that did not offer AP courses, and I was admitted to Brown, so don't sweat it. As long as it's evident you've pushed yourself academically, they'll think highly of you, AP's or not.

You can't take them if your school doesn't offer them, so they won't penalize you. If you do independent or self-study and take AP exams or take college courses, that will look great on your application, but as long as you've taken the most challenging courses available at your school, Brown will be happy.

Besides, there´s really no way that they can check your AP scores for sure, as they´re all just self-reported. But I would hope that everyone is honest about them.

Actually, you should submit a College Board AP Score Report with your application, and have them submit your senior year AP scores to the college as well... so the registrar does have the official record of your AP scores for credit and placement.
