<p>What I wonder is if there is a libertarian/paleocon presence at Dartmouth. The traditional leftists and neocons are well represented, it seems. In the end, it doesn't matter much, if you can resist peer pressure.</p>
<p>Chris, Dartmouth is one of the only top schools that is incredibly tolerant to all view points. You will find people of all backgrounds and there isn't really the shunning that goes on at other campuses at all.</p>
<p>Cool, glad to hear it. I just got back from Dimensions (after oversleeping and missing my original bus/flight back, but everything worked out okay).</p>
<p>How was Dimensions? My daughter missed it, but she'd already decided to go to Dartmouth.</p>

<p>I am as paleocon as they come...however, at Dartmouth, I will be known as a "Jackson Democrat," as they are essentially the same thing. It just sounds better than saying, "I'm a Whig!"
Also, I won't have to worry about profs screwing me over b/c I'm conservative.</p>

<p>when i was at dartmouth for dimensions, it seemed that it was more a school for left leaning moderates with pockets of the extremes on either side.. but i couldbe completely wrong</p>
<p>I encountered people of all political persuasions at Dartmouth - I was pleasantly surprised by the number of conservatives I encountered. No matter what your ideological view is, I think you'll be fine if you're open to good-natured debate and discussion, as people seemed to enjoy ribbing each other as well as having more serious-minded discussions. What sums D's political nature up for me is the "warring dorm room door" I encountered down the hall from my host's room - numerous Bush and Kerry stickers from the election were duking it out up and down the door, but in a friendly/amusing way (please excuse my personification of election stickers).</p>
<p>That's what I consider myself, a left-leaning moderate. I just don't think I would fit in at a place that is ultra-liberal like Wes (leyan). I'm not sure how well I would fit into a place that is overrun by radicals</p>
<p>Historically conservativism and libertarianism has been part of dartmouth's image and rep, but it seems there are now those who would like dartmouth to become more of a Brown-clone.</p>
<p>I hope it doesn't happen; Dartmouth's rep for political/intellectual diversity is what I chose it for in the first place.</p>
