:) Haha. Okay, not neccessarily.
But I was wondering. Would being a model be a good hook for colleges? Because that's the only job I have, and I forsee having in my next few years in Japan.

:) :) If I want to be a smart-a$$ I can say I was an international model, but I think thats pushing it. :) :)

I don't want to sound self-centered or anything, but I have to make a decision if I should continue to or not. If it's a really good hook, then I might continue to, but if not, I might just stop.

I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me out and/or not make fun of me!!!

It would only be a hook if you have achieved supermodel status then you would be courted like a celebrity (developmental admit who throws serious funds at the school)

I always wondered how Brooke Shields made it to Priceton :-)
Just kidding. I heard she was at Princeton before she modeled
for those 'nothing comes between me and my Calvins'.

Seriously, I think colleges give a lot of weight to surmounting
hardship, rising from the pack, and earning your keep. If you
can construct a reality (or credible story) portraying how you
faced hardship, grew and expoited your talents to help
overcome those obstacles, grew stronger with the experience,
and built a college fund for yourself ... you can wow those
Ivy Adcoms and get them salivating.

If you have missed a lot of school for modeling and kept good grades, it says a lot for you. Modeling can be very demanding. Write a good essay get good recs and show your seriousness as a student and it will work for you

There was a poster nattiebee last season on the Harvard board who was an experienced model and she had had a few walk-on parts in some music videos and/or movies.

She got into Harvard and Brown as I recall, so being a model sure didn't hurt her chances.

BTW, Brooke Shields was famous as an actress and model long before she got into Princeton. She had the title role in the movie "Pretty Baby" when she was what? 13 maybe?

there was a Miss Teen NY finalist or something like that in the freshman class this year at my school, and the school felt strongly enough about it to list that accomplishment, along with the exotic fish breeder and some other quite odd ECs that people had.

I think adcoms like it when they see ECs that are different from the norm -- I mean, if you were reading through applications full of the same types of HS clubs over and over and over again and then you saw some kid who modelled in Japan, wouldn't you think it was interesting and give it a second look just for the surprise factor? I sure would...

But honestly, this is cliche, but just do what you love and that will come through. So if you enjoy modeling, then stick with it by all means; if you don't, quit and find something more interesting to do with your time. There's nothing intrinsically better (or more appealing to adcoms) about either route, so just focus on doing what you want to do, and everything else will materialize.

yeah, i agree with what people have said already.

most people just have the regular old stuff for their ecs - sports teams, debate, band, whatever - and i'll bet the adcoms get sick of reading the same things over and over again. modelling definitely helps you stand out. i'm not sure how much it'll help you get in someplace, but it'll definitely make the adcoms take a second look at you, which can only help your chances!

but i concur with the rest, if you spend a great deal on modelling, and kept good grades, then you should continue it. is it something you really love? show it.

While it is a nice and unique EC, I can't see it making up for low GPA or SAT. A true hook (low income URM or NCAA athlete) would add points to either one.

think it that way
" You are earning ...
You are glamourous
You are a recognized model
You have learnt something unusual
Not all ppl are models
Especially student applicants......

the pretty face wouldnt be a hook rather the quality and learning would be....

pheww. Okay, so I got a lot of positive feedback from this...good! I was worried I might get chewed out or something! I've only been modeling for a year and a half now, and because schoolwork is getting harder, I was wondering if I could keep it up, and if it would be beneficial to. According to most of you guys, it would, as long as I keep my grades up? I would like to kepp doing it, because that's what pays me through my homeschooling thing (but my family isn't in a lower economic status than average, so I don't think it would really count).
