I’m a freshman in CGS right now and am doing worse than I anticipated. I am really trying as hard as I can, studying for midterms and doing my homework and such, but am still struggling to get at least a B/B+. I’m honestly scared right now of where my grades and future career are headed. I thought CGS was harder than CAS, but I’m doing better in my CAS elective than in any of my CGS classes. I guess I was just wondering if this is usually the case for CGS students? And if it gets easier? Any advice?

Hey, I am a sophomore in CGS and I’ll tell you that it might not get easier academically, but you will become more used to CGS and the work they expect from you. Your professors really want to help you if you’re struggling. Go to them and talk. Really. Office hours could make your B’s into A’s. Ask them questions. Ask them about study tips and what they’re looking for in your work.

Second that opinion. DD had seldom gone to talk to a teacher outside of class in high school, but made the decision in college to visit each professor at least once early in the semester. The CGS professor, Dr Martin, was especially helpful. She would hustle to get a rough draft of a paper done early enough that she could take it to her and discuss it. Frankly, this is the kid of thing that she previously would have done if I pressured her…college is different! And by the way, the professors are required to do those office hours, and are often bored because no one comes. Take a step into something new…this is BU!
