I was accepted to CGS and know that its the program where you complete all your liberal arts requirements prior to professional study. I was just wondering what the workload is like and how well it prepares students for the subsequent college of their choice.

it's definitely not comparable to other schools at BU. sure it will prepare you but in the end they WANT you guys to have the GPAs they require for you to transfer out (which ends up being different at all the different schools) so they will get you to those GPAs one way or another and not through an impossible workload. But yeah it's way more comparable to high school. I mean you don't even pick your own schedule

It is nothing like high school at all. Only similar is that they pick your classes and only for your first year. You can choose electives second year.

Is there a listing of the GPA's required to transfer into each school?

I disagree with DJglover. Im a current CGS sophomore. CGS is by no means much easier than the others- and they dont "want you to have the GPA" I dont know any professor in CGS who will give you a grade you didnt earn just so you can transfer. You earn it or you dont. The workload is constant, but its manageable- seeing that you got into BU you must be a good student, although youll go through lulls and peaks (I had a CGS exam every week of February, followed by 2 papers due after break, then a week of CGS finals). I know a lot of kids in other schools who screw around, a lot of CGS kids do a lot of work (Ive had friends in ENG admit that yes, kids in CGS do their fair share of work). No, the classes probably wont have you failing. Your CGS GPA isnt the only determining factor in moving on- almost every school requires a certain grade in their prereq classes.

I dont know anyone in my sophomore class who is unprepared for the work in their major classes. CGS does a good job giving you really solid skills to build on. Sure, some of the classes are going to be a lot more difficult, but by the time you move on into your upper level major classes, they're not supposed to be easy.

Also, while the curriculum is set (which you can see at http://www.bu.edu/cgs/about/interdisciplinary%20core%20courses.htm) you will notice that 2nd semester freshman year you start taking electives. You can find the GPAs for each school here-http://www.bu.edu/cgs/current/index.html

scroll down to the fact sheets and select the school you want. the requirements can change each year- these are for this year.

Thanks for the info...Also, I was wondering is it possible if one wanted to transfer to another university from CGS?

That's only possibly/madatory after you've completed the two year program

What, you mean that you can only transfer from CGS after two years? You can't leave before that??

Not unless you transfer out of BU completely
