A question about chances.

This is an innocent question and I don't want to make a war out of this.

For the people who constantly chance other people and then eventually go on to make a topic about asking what their chances are... why can't you chance yourself? Just stare at your numbers/ECs/etc. and make a decision of whether College X is a safety, match, or reach? Like, if you can chance 235483509385 people of whether they can't get in this college but then you can't figure out if you have a shot at ___ college, that's kind of odd, isn't right?

Unless it's their nerves that mess up their judgment of themselves. Has to be this, right? If it's not this then I don't know what it is.

Second opinions…ego boost/reassurance

Bump.

Even with nerves you should have some kind of idea without sharing your stats to the world for opinions that are sometimes wrong anyway.

I have a question about why people with outstanding stats always ask for chances when they know they’ll have a decent chance pretty much anywhere.

Sometimes people can give better insight into schools they are overlooking or schools the applicant should give up on.

But I think everyone should take the stats with a grain of salt. There were many schools were people said I was an “IN” where I was rejected or waitlisted!

Yeah but if you’re stats were like some I’ve seen like 2300+ SAT, 4.0 GPA, and a slew of extracurriculars you really don’t need a chance thread. If you don’t have these stats go ahead and ask for some insight. But people with these do post and others respond telling them what they ought to already know.
