I'm currently a first year with sophomore standing at UCSD, looking to transfer into Haas or UCLA biz econ/financial actuarial mathematics. By the end of my second year, I'll have senior standing, which I believe makes me ineligible for transfer, which means I have to apply this year. I don't care about the fact that UC-UC transfers are really low, but since I've only been in college for about a month, my application really won't differ from my high school application, which is the one that got me rejected. (I have no college grades) Should I just let go and enjoy life at UCSD?

If you want to write 2 essays and have the app fee, why not? Worse thing is that you’ll just stay at UCSD.

You seem to be aware of how competitive those programs are, that UCs prioritize CC transfers, and that you are very close to the unit limit.

Are you at that standing because of AP units? Because while they count toward your class standing, they don’t actually count toward your unit limit cap for transferring.

“Units earned through AP, IB, and/or A-Level examinations are not included in the limitation and do not put applicants at risk of being denied admissions.” (source on bottom).

The only thing that would make you have “too high standing” would be classes you actually took in college, (so if you were in your 3rd or 4th year and trying to transfer), and seeing as you’re a first year, you should be fine. (note you can still apply this year because AP units do make it possible to reach the minimum units needed to transfer, see 1-year transfer).

Like luckie said, if you can apply this year, go for it, it won’t hurt you in anyway. If you don’t get in anywhere, you can apply next year too for reasons mentioned. Just maintain high GPA, get more prereqs done, and even get some solid ECs under your belt with the year span you have.
