transfer after one year of CC?

Okay well, I just graduated High school last year and didn't get into any college I wanted to attend. I also learned about the college debt bubble and realized that I'd rather not go into debt for a state school anyway.

Okay so, I took and passed 7 ap exams in HS
AP European History - 3
APUSH - 4
AP Calculus AB - 5
AP Statistics - 4
AP Biology - 3
AP MACROeconomics - 4
AP Psychology - 4

Major: Business Economics (pre)

Okay then I took two summer classes at my CC coming out of High school, got A's in both -- American Government and MICROeconomics.

So i'm here applying witha 4.0, but it only reflects two ACTUAL college classes...
I technically have 32.7 units (IGETC) completed at my CC cause of all the AP and two classes.

I work 7 days a week - 55 hours a week across two jobs
I am taking 17 semester units currently and 15 next semester

I will have IGETC completed in the spring and also my major requirements. (accountings, business law, calcs, etc etc)

Do I have any shot in hell at getting in? I'm also applying to SLO and maybe some other UCs but my situation is so weird and Idk... Thank you for reading this, and if you reply that would be great.

Not at all a weird situation. You have an excellent chance of getting in and will enter with Junior status! See if you can join your honor society- probably not with just one year. Talk to your Transfer office to be sure you are squared away for graduation and certified IGETC (certified on your transcript). Take advantage of TAG for non-UCLA/UCB UC’s (as a safety). Search on UCLA’s website for transfer students- they have information, outreach, and summer programs; also look into the AAP program. Fill out your UC application over the next month. Look for outside scholarships (e.g. using FastWeb) in Dec-March. You are good-to-go!

Hey there!Thank you for the response! I chose to forego honors because of the fact that I work 55 hours a week so i don’t have to go into debt for school… I’m hoping I can leverage that to my benefit on my UC app. I keep going to my transfer counselors haha. They are so good to me there by ensuring that I get appointments perfect for my schedule(they are so packed they book the entire week in 15 minutes. (50+ callers get put on hold easily) Yeah I would like to tag UCSB, not sure if I can though.

They can be busy. If you need a car to get to work, would you take out a loan to buy one? If you need some knowledge to earn $30/hour, would you take out a loan to buy it? Or would you work for $10/hour, three times as long, to avoid taking a loan to buy what you need? Keep your priorities straight, and remember that GPA and time-to-degree have real, fungible, value (so does recreation and “play”). Don’t let “avoiding debt” blind you to this NPV calculation! Yes, they’re busy. Make it a priority to find time to deal with their bureaucracy. 15 minutes will be more than enough to get your questions answered.

Bruh, I get my appointments, I mean they have a 15 minute window in which you can schedule an appointment. I make $15/hr. and debt is crippling when u get out cause you begin to pay for living and things. I can manage my work and school it’s not a problem it’s just difficult. Only for one year. Grind for a year save 30k pay for school graduate a year early debt free is my plan

Very good! Also, look at financial aid, though. They take what you earned off the top before giving you aid. Not going into debt is the way to go, as long as you are not losing out. Some people look at the short term and miss out on the big picture. That happens more frequently when you have less experience (are younger). I did not mean to be condescending, just making sure you are looking at the big picture. You seem to have thought this through. Good luck!

@ItsJustSchool‌ Yeah i’m worried about the fact that I made too much money to get aid. However my father makes too much to get me any grants anyway so I guess it’s okay. Yes I have to make sure the opportunity cost is in check for overworking. I ended up getting all A’s in those 17 Fall units luckily! So UCLA will see my 7/7 A’s 4.0, would you reckon that’s too little of a track record by which they can judge me? I didn’t get into SLO as expected because they require completed rather than in progress requirements and don’t even ask for fall grades. Thanks for your answers by the way!

I think you will be fine. I certainly know of an example of 12 AP classes + 3 college classes (45 units) taking 2 fall classes and getting into UCLA (with 2 more in the Spring for full IGETC) based on only those 3 classes (plus the two in-progress at time of application). That was to LAS- is Economics impacted; might make a difference?

Congratulations on your high GPA.
