So I am a freshman at a CC planning to apply to UCLA as a transfer student. I have obtained 30 semester units through AP scores. I understand that 60 units are needed to fulfill the IGETC in order to apply for transfer. I am enrolled for 15 units this semester and hopefully next semester as well.I will be applying this fall for 2012 fall admission.
My question is this: When I submit my UC application (somewhere between Nov-Dec) I will not have any final grades for my CC transcript. How would the admission process work for me? If I have no available GPA, then what do they base my admission decision off of?

They base the admission decision off your fall grades - decisions won’t come out until late March - April next year. Since you have 30 AP units, that means this fall semester is the only chance you can “impress” UCLA admission. It’s go big or get lost in this case good luck

You’ll have little of IGETC done, and probably very few of your major prereqs finished. Don’t get your hopes up.

there was a long thread from a couple years ago about people who transferred after one year of community college. it seemed like most of the people were pretty successful, however if i recall correctly their situations were a bit different, in that a lot of them didn’t have nearly as many AP credits as you did, so they took really heavy courseloads that were like 20 credits a semester, so that may have helped their case a bit.
just make sure you complete all of the requirements and do well in the 15 credits you are taking this fall. keep us posted on how it turns out

Have you picked a major? Pick.
Planning to do general ed’s on summer and winter? Plan.
Clubs? Join and rank. Prez preferably of course.

You have semester units, but how many of it actually satisfies your GE/IGETC?

You should take more than 15 units if you can handle it and are serious about getting accepted.
