Hey i have applied at IUB for the third round but i have really little information about them. Can u tell me if applying in the 3rd round give u less chances in getting in because there r fewer places and they look for really exellent students?

I have another question regarding IUB. How generous is it with aid? Is its generousity comparable to those of American LACs?

oh.....i need an answer to that too actually....ANYONE???

IUB is need blind (thats what i know). I wanted to know how good it is .. any stats? what is the avg sat I score etc

If its for engineering, then the SAT1 score should be atleast 1300 I think. In the first and second rounds its really easy to get in( almost like a cutoff- some people believe an undeclared cutoff exists). Im not sure about the third round...didn't know they had a 3rd round actually.

Disclaimer: The above knowledge is from internet surfing, hearing from friends who have been accepted etc. i.e. not from personal experience.

well i was asked to pay about as much as I had said i could! but they also figured in some "tuition postponement" into the aid package. tht's a loan in other words.

but yea.. they're pretty generous with aid!

i applied for the 2nd round and got in although i thought my app was really badly put together (however, stats are within iub's range, so to speak)

aaron.. i forgot ur stats.. man.. cud u mind repeating

SM

well.. i'd a 2140 in the SATs (1430 m+v)

sent u a pm with my stats

Iub is really really good....ive heard that they're quite generous....

1) Third round decisions will be out shortly (mid-April or earlier)

2) Applying in 3rd round does mean it's going to be tougher to get in, and 4th round is quite difficult for non-Europeans. But if you're good, they'll take you

3) Aid is usually generous, with the exception of the fact that it only covers tuition, room and food. Books and other personal expenses you will have to manage on your own which comes to 1000 euro minimum and 3000 max. I was able to live off 1200 including return trip home. Loan is usually 5500 Euro or more per year. Interest rate is high at 7.5% compounded annually, but since it's a 3 year program, your final loan should not be more than 18-20,000 euro.

4) The median SAT score at IUB is 1400 math+verbal.

yea but i just found out frm the undergraduate application form ( pdf ) :

Please note that students from outside the European
Union should complete their applications for
admission in Rounds I, II, and III. For these students,
the requirements for acquiring a student visa in
Germany make it virtually impossible to matriculate
at IUB if an admission decision is not made prior
to 1 July.

I applied in round 4, got decision on June 16, but still managed to get the visa one day before I was supposed to leave. And I applied for visa on August 2nd.

It's possible, but you'll be taking a risk.

Isn't the dateline for round 4 July 1st? how did you get your decision on june 16? Also, can I apply without IB/A levels?

However as opposed to the high acceptance rate, I have heard that you have to maintain your GPA really high(for engineering atleast). This is probably true in some way, because everyone in my class who applied there got in.

men i think i am really out of IUB. i have an SAT 1 of 1340 (780 math 560cr) and 570 wr. Math IIC 720 Italian 760 and Bio M 670. Gpa 9.05/10. Top 10%. Two school's math olympiad: the first time 6th and the second 4th. Recc very good. Eca really good. Also a good essay. What do u think my chances are comparing my scores to your friends? (if only i could take MATH IIC only once more and if i had taken physics instead of BIO M. ehhhh)

Addressing me Olsi? If so, then I would have said very good, but now its the third round, so I really don't know. Also it really depends on your chosen major.

1) Seems that they changed the round 4 deadline to July 1st this year, last year it was June 1st.

2) You can apply without IB/A level. You just have to complete your own country's schooling before you enter IUB.

3) Olsi, your stats are fine for IUB.

4) Havaldaar, that's true, for EECS majors, you must maintain at least a 3.33 european GPA each semester to continue studying EECS. That is a C+ average, but surprizingly, still quite hard to maintain. Other majors have it easier though, with no minimum GPA other than that required to pass. And even then they get A's and B's mostly.

In my country we do need the A level equvalent, but the US system doesnt. So i was wondering if i could still consider IUB....

@ havaldaar: i didnt know that the major i chose in the app would influence in the app. if i knew i would have act diff. You see i chose engineering but seeing all this exellent student who have applied at IUB fot the same major, this gives me very very very low chances for gettin in. So if i knew i would have applied for boiengineering and once there change my major... i dont think it would have been a problem once there. uhhhh

cling, yes you can apply with A Levels.
