A Question about Study Halls

So, I made the decision in high school to never take a Study Hall. Mainly because my parents were paying a hefty amount for me to attend a College Prep School, and I just didn't want a period where I didn't learn anything. I'm sure it would have been useful, I'm literally the only kid in my entire grade who has never had a study hall, but I'm okay with it.

Will colleges know that I chose not to have a study hall? Or do they even care whether or not students have a study hall?

Nope, the colleges wouldn't know most likely (only academic classes tend to be submitted.) And I doubt they would care unless your guidance counselor mentioned it in their letter...

I doubt that what you didn't take will show up on the transcript. However, the lack of study hall should result in an extra 3 or 4 high school credits. If you make the most of those extra courses, I don't see how it can be anything but a benefit to you and your college application.

I too am paying tuition for a college prep school. My D, a rising junior, will have her first study period in high school this fall. She will be using that time to work on an on-line AP Art History course (her school doesn't offer APAH) and to work in the art studio. Because of scheduling conflicts, she wasn't able to fit in Art III, but got permission to work independently. She is happy about that, because an A+ in art, due to grade weighting, would lower her GPA.

So I actually think that even a study period can be useful. Either way, make the most of your time. Good luck!

Yeah I don't think they would care. Free periods are useful though. =] I've done a lot of my hw in free periods.

okay thanks everyone. good luck.
