did you receive your FA package with your admission letter or did it come later? Do the decisions come by mail only or mail and online?

I got accepted this week - there was no financial information, though. I think it’s going to come by mail only the first week of April.

You were an early admit, so it’s not surprising that FA packages weren’t ready. I was specifically asking if those who receive RD admissions decions (not early writes) got their FA pakcages with their decisions or later.

D was accepted on a Friday, F/A information was available online the following Monday.

Early accepts, how did you get the news? Email or snail mail or online? Thanks

^snail mail. it was in an envelope along with your decision contract and an invitation to the Amherst open house/student weekend.

“it was in an envelope along with your decision contract”

So, is it only the early writes that include a decision contract? If that’s true, I guess that explains the purpose of early writes–to yield as many of their top applicants as they can. Thoughts?

@Retter: I have no idea if early writes are the only ones who receive a decision contract; I just know that it was included in my early write package. I believe you’re correct in that the purpose of an early write is to attract applicants who Amherst anticipates being highly sought after by other schools, for whatever reason.

^
Early writes are under no obligation to confirm or deny their decision before May 1st. On the other hand, it does help the college stand out if they send a student who is potentially in high demand an early write – when one gets 5 or 6 acceptances the same day, those colleges all start to blur together.

@LoremIpsum: That’s exactly what I said. THe decision contract was merely in case I wanted to “let them know before May 1st.” I recognize that I have absolutely no obligation to Amherst.
