How much does Cornell factor extracurriculars into their application-related decisions? I'm currently a high school junior, but unfortunately, the last two summers have been filled with dullness and inactivity. I've been unable to obtain any sort of job or outside task, and my only real extracurricular relates to my approximate three-year presence on my school's track and field team.

According to the Common Data Set, it is VERY important. Scroll down to C7 and you can see what they use to factor into decisions.

It probably depends on factors like which college you are applying to, where you are from (one of a gazzillion New Yorkers or…), what your other ‘elements’ are. It is not a complete break factor (my son had very few ECs and is only now racking up some notable awards, yet he got in ED). Commitment and effort to that EC is probably more important?
