A Question on my Peculiar Case of High School GPA

Hello College Confidential Community,

My overall GPA (as my high school transcript shows) is 3.7/4 (91.95/100). However, I have a sharp upward trend from freshman year to senior year.

Freshman year had all regular classes with no honors or APs or IB, and Fresh man GPA was 3.0.
Sophomore Year had all honors classes and my GPA that year was 3.8.
Junior Year had all IB SL classes and my GPA that year was 4.0
Senior Year (Current Year: 1st Term) had all IB SL Classes with 3 HL Classes (the most rigorous my school would allow) and my GPA is 4.0.

I hope my concern is evident: while 3.7 seem modest for many top-tier colleges, my situation involves a sharp increase in GPA throughout years that have increasingly difficult and more rigorous courses. Therefore, when I observe Ivies and their frequent average acceptances of 3.9-4.0 GPA, I wonder if my situation can diminish the less-than-par 3.7 GPA.

Thank you for your thoughts and inputs!

I could be wrong but I’ve heard that universities focus more on junior/senior years?
I’m sure they all take a look at everything but I can see grades from freshman yeat being less impactful than that from senior year.
Upward trend is definitely good.
I had a similar situation and I have received acceptance to Johns Hopkins.
Good Luck!

Yes that will be noticed. Some colleges don’t use freshman grades at all, everywhere will weigh it less. Actually your weighted gpa should be strong.

@Seld00n‌ actually, stanford doesn’t look at freshman grades, I believe.

@Seld00n the UCs do not look at freshman year, so that is definitely not unheard of.
