For ALL jobs? I can't imagine how much it'd be utilized in some jobs though...
I'm sure most colleges have communications/speech classes, they just don't all REQUIRE them.

I think for every job you at least need a minor degree of ability in this area

It never hurts to have the skill anyway does it? Of course you will be using it ... when you interact with anyone on a day to day basis, talking with business associates, talking with anyone really. A communications/speech class will enhance your ability to express coherent thoughts in such a way that the other party will fully understand.

It's not required at my school, BYU

What if you're like a reclusive scientist...
oh I guess you wouldn't care about employers anyway then...

Well even scientists have to share there ideas. It doesn't mean giving a speech to thousands, but being able to effectively communicate is vital

That's why I said RECLUSIVE. As in, you don't want to see or talk to anyone. lol
It was a silly joke, don't take it so seriously.

First off, the list of colleges that don't require a speech class is huge. Just because you haven't heard about something doesn't mean it doesn't exist. By the way, I agree that effective communcation is a vital skill that many employers prefer, it is not required for every job. By the way, I don't think professors or books can teach what should be natural abilities effectively. If they could, then why are there non-effective communators flooding the job market?

Oh, for future reference, don't always listen to polls. Maybe you should take a Statistics class and learn that you can make numbers say anything.

By the way, I am speaking as a public speaker myself. I have participated in my share of speeches, debates, and panel discussions over the years. So listen to me... there are some thing you learn only from personal experience, and communation is one of them.

And there are some people that are just naturally born speakers who don't need classes...and then there are people who will never be good speakers no matter how much experience they have or instruction they receive. shrug
You're right about the statistics though; after taking a stat class I don't believe anything from polls/surveys/etc.

Yes, but even a horific speaker can get a little better with a class.

umm......speaking skills can be easily improved........you dont have to be "born" with it...are you kiddin me????

? I never said that. I said some people are naturally better, and some people are just bad. I didn't say anything about the effect of classes.

oo alright....

I don't remember very much of the Interpersonal Communication course I took last semester. Eh.

I became a better speaker frommy speech class.

id say it helped me alot, learningt how to write and make speeches and then how to deliver them.
