A unique situation

Hey, I am new to the forums and would appreciate any advice.

My situation is perhaps somewhat unique from most who are applying for the USNA class of 2011. I graduated from high school in 2005 and I am a pervious candidate for the class of 2009. I was tripled qualified and received with a nomination, but did not receive an appointment. I have attended North Carolina State University for the past year where I have a GPA of approximately 3.8 and, if I stay, I plan to double major in chemical engineering and physics.
My problem is this: I had originally decided not to try for admission to USNA a second time, but I found that I was continually thinking about USNA and still had a very strong desire to go there. I then submitted the pre-lim application for the class of 2010, but this was in late October and by the time I would have been able to get my nomination stuff together, it would have been past the congressional deadlines. Therefore I was forced to wait for the admission cycle for 2011. (I will have attended college for two years before possible admission to USNA)
My application is complete, except for the candidate physical test and my interview, both of which will be completed later this month or early August.
As I was speaking to a B&G (not my own) he seemed to not know that I originally applied for the class of 2009. According to his records, I only completed the pre-lim for 2010. Now that I have written a novel :-p I come to my question. When the admissions board reviews my candidate packet, will they only see my pre-lim from 2010 in my past file, or will my complete application for 2009 be there also? I ask because I do not want the board to think that I half-a**ed the 2010 application. Should I call USNA to verify? Thanks for taking the time to read down this far. haha
Oh, and btw. Is it true that the admissions board does not review college applicants until January?

Again, thanks for the advice.

Yes, your packets does not get reviewed until end Jan./early Feb.
I would contact your regional admissions counselor to ask about what is included in your file when re-applying in a situation like yours.

mr825:

Listen to jadler03. Get in contact with RD and STAY in contact. Get your nomination info ready. How about any sports? Seems to carry a lot of weight. If the USNA IS your true desire, don't let ANYTHING stand in your way. ;)

mr825:

If you want to speak to someone who went through the process 2 times in college before being appointed, let me know.

mightyrooster-
most applicants who go to college get reviewed in january-

however.....
you already have a year of college grades to submit- usually that is what they want to see- demonstrated competency....

I am hardly an expert, but I would offer the following suggestions:

Get in contact with your BGO- and stay in contact- make sure your BGO has a solid understanding of the circumstances

Submit your application now- along with a copy of your college transcript. Include in a VERY SUSCIENT LETTER your situation-

Wait about 3 weeks after submission (and receipt) of your application and contact your regional director. Send a copy of your letter if necessary.

Get that nomination.

Do not delay in anything else- respect the deadlines- all of them. Get your cfa done, your DODMERB done, etc. be on time with all of that....do not let them see anything but MOTIVATION to "git 'er dun!!!" BE THE ROOSTER THAT YOU ARE....IT's THE EARLY BIRD THAT CATCHES THE WORM!!!

Best of luck to you!

Thank you all for your advice!

My BGO has been great. I have talked to him about my situation multiple times. He suggested that I call USNA admissions.
Although I was very active in high school sports (baseball, team captain, sportsmanship award) and continue to be very physically active in college, I have not participated in an organized sport. Should I try to participate in an intramural sport this upcoming year?
I believe that my DODMERB will carry over for two years. If this is wrong, please let me know.
But anyways, I will not bore you with another 'chances' post and give you my entire resume.
Thank you all for your time and advice.

An intramural sport would not hurt! Another way to show that you participate is through running road races (recommend distances of 5k & 10k).

mr825 - PLEASE keep in touch. You wouldn't believe the cheering section you can develop from this sight! ;)

I received an immense amount of info from this sight prior to Sis finally making to USNA.

GO NAVY! :D

thanks wvdad. hopefully in a few months, ill be able to say that im heading to Iday. once i get everything done, the hardest part for me, is the waiting haha.

jadler03-if you are or know of anyone who has gone through admissions in a similar situation to myself, and believe they may be able to help me out with things that are uncommon for the average applicant to USNA, please let me know. i would greatly appreciate it.

thanks!

Hi Mightyrooster, I'd just like to say to you not to give up. My situation was/is slightly similar to yours. After witnessing my sister go through her plebe year at the Academy (Class of 2009), I decided to apply. I attended college for one year and had been struggling with the decision because like you, I found myself ALWAYS thinking about the USNA. I finally decided to go with my heart and got into contact with someone from Admissions and told them my situation. Suprisingly they encouraged me to apply for the Class of 2010. It was early February. I was very weary about getting everything done in time, but the person whom I kept in contact with from admissions kept telling me that it didn't hurt to try. All they could say is "no". It was indeed a whirlwind and a very stressful time for me. My application was finally completed sometime in the middle of April. I had already told myself that I wouldn't get in and that I would re-apply for class of 2011. However, I couldn't believe how lucky I was and I even felt guilty. I heard in May that I had gotten an appointment to NAPS. I cannot describe how surprised and unbelievably honored I was. Now in just a few short weeks I'll be headed to I-day at NAPS and hopefully making it to I-day 2007 at USNA as a member of the class of 2011.
So to you I'd just like to say is to keep on giving it your all. The best piece of advice about the app. process I can give would be to stay in contact with admissions. They really can help you out. You never know what will come out of your hard work and persistence. I know you can make it. If anything, this all makes you appreciate an apointment to USNA even more. I know that I am definitely not taking this for granted and I plan on making the most of my experience and being the best NAPSter I can be! Hopefully I'll be seeing you next summer! Goodluck! :)

WOW
twofme, for some reason, i just got chills from reading your post. you put into words what i feel on a daily basis. I would consider it an honor to serve and even more so to attend USNA. good luck at NAPS and hopefully ill be seein ya around in about a year! :-)
