I like this school a lot…what are my chances with:
SAT: 1540
SatIIs all above 750
GPA 3.9 unweighted, 4.3 weighted
5’s on three APs
Natl Merit semifinalist + AP scholar
a few ranking titles for extracurriculars

should i dismiss the dream of going here or cross my fingers and pray?

Consider that Amherst's representation of scores and GPA are a bit lower tham those scores that would make an applicant solid. Most top schools put effort into catching athletes and URMs, and getting into the Amherst would be a little harder without these stats or other connections (like legacy, and whatnot). That said, I think you have a decent shot at anywhere you want to apply... Surely your chance at Amherst isn't so small that you should abandon hope. You're a very strong applicant and you're possibly a stronger applicant than the average student accepted at Amherst. DEFINATELY apply.

So Amherst is your #1 choice? It was for me, I applied ED and got in.

Def #1...and my friend who goes there says that I count as a minority too because the number of asians at amherst and other small lib arts schools is smaller than at larger more well known research universities

I don't think you should worry too much .... unless that's all you have, but I'm applying and my scores and academic honors are much lower than the average. From what I hear, I have a good chance of admittance too.

haha... i realized that about 2 minutes afterwards... and I really can't decided on my number 1 choice at the moment... so many good schools!! I do have a top tier of 4 schools though.

Yeah I applied RD, i would have done ED but I wasn't sure if I could afford it...still not sure but...hoping that 1. I get in 2. I can afford it

OHHH SCORE!

Not true. This year's freshman class is 16% Asian. That's quite large considering that Asians only make up 4% of the US population.
