A1 auditions

Feel better soon to your D, @myloves !

@myloves – one of my students at JMU missed the live pre-screen here (that she had registered for), and was able to contact A1 and have it switched to a video submission. So, if your D feels up to filming the pre-screen, she can still audition that way. Hope she feels better soon!

Thank you, @artskids @janne006 @GSOMTMom @owensfolks @KatMT !

Yes, Artskids, D, who had always been healthy up until college, had pneumonia first semester freshman year and now mono junior year. We joke that it’s a major illness every other year in college for her, so next year and after college, she should be fine, knock on wood!

That stinks, janne006. All the cost, effort, and expectation… Oh, well! I guess they have to learn how to navigate this field no matter what the circumstance. We are really glad this didn’t fully manifest even a couple days sooner. D was in a show then! Now that would’ve been bad. She couldn’t have done it.

Kat, as soon as it was apparent that D wasn’t going to be able to attend the audition, she contacted and was told the same. That’s good! Not as good as an in person one, of course, but there’s still a chance, at least.

@myloves I hope your D is feeling better. My oldest had a horrible case 2nd semester of her sophomore year… and it was tough to be a mom for that long distance… and in fact I made a trek out to her school for an ER visit midway through. (My youngest and MT D had a case so mild the following year that I wouldn’t have believed it was mono except for the blood test.). Here’s hoping your D’s experience is closer to the latter!

Thanks, @kategrizz! It is so hard to be far away during times like this. D was sick last week, including a trip to the ER for several hours last Thursday night because she thought she had strep; a few cast members of a show she was in the previous weekend developed it. D was diagnosed with mono Saturday and got worse, so I flew out over the weekend, and I’m scheduled to fly home Monday. We’re both concerned about when I leave, but she has a great support system here in the faculty, administration, and students, so I’m keeping the focus on that and trying to be optimistic that she’ll start feeling better before I go!

That stinks that you and your other D got it, too. I’m sure it was a huge relief to have such mild cases after witnessing and going through the severe case with your older D. I never knew before how the majority of the population carries the virus, but it only manifests itself in a small percentage.

@myloves…I had it so long ago it was practically the dark ages. I was a freshman in high school… so 1980/81? Sorry to hear your D’s experience seems closer to my older D’s. Just prep her for the fact that she will tire more easily for a long time after all the rest of the symptoms have long disappeared. My D said it was 6 months before she felt like she had all her stamina back.

Does anyone know where exactly the A1auditions are going to be in January? I remember someone asking but I can’t find an answer. My D is going and has been signing up for workshops and tickets but she’s not sure if it’s at Pearl or where. I’d like to get a close hotel booked so would love to know for sure if anyone has the info.

Last year Saturday was at Pearl Studios and Sunday was at NOLA Studios. I don’t think they have announced for this year.
