A100 and A201

1) A100 appears to be a tough class. It is worse than C117. Professor Winston is the only teacher.

Grade Distribution Report

2) A201 has seven Professors (Thies, Falk, Hopkins, Wang, Niemanb, Rearick, and Head). Am I correct on that per the following link?

Indiana University Course Browser

A201 does not look as bad as A100. Who are the better teachers among the seven?

ace550,

Are you a kelley direct admit or a standard admit? A-100 is a weed out class the main goal is to learn the material by yourself. For A-100 it doesn’t matter which professor you have because they won’t really teach you the material in order to do well in the exam. You must take a proactive approach learn the material by yourself, attend class, go to office hours, and sign up for the array of review sessions that are held in your class or an outside resource such as BTOWN tutors.

A-201 – you listed 7 Professors to correct you there are only 3 full time professors that teach A-201 and the rest are graduate students proctoring the discussion class. I highly recommend Professor Rearick he does an excellent job of simplifying the material and his lectures are entertaining.

At the end of the day, ace550 if you take a proactive approach and put the required time in and outside of class you will at least get a B-. Having Rearick or Thies as your A-201 professor is not going to change your grade significantly.

So basically with A-100 if the effort is there you can do it? My concern is the grading style, is it just one or two tests and that’s it?

It is two tests making up (0% of the grade, and attendance making up 10%.

College2007,

Thanks for the “insider” information. I am posting the questions for one of my twin boys (HS Juniors). He has a decent chance for DA. Some of you may laugh at my overparenting. However, the two tests/semester scheme would be a shock to freshmen who probably got used to high school’s quizzes/projects/tests nurturing style. I will definitely ask him to sign up Professor Rearick’s A201 if he can survive the A100.

If your son gets into Hutton Honors College (he should definitely join, if invited), have him take the honors versions of A201 and A202. These are A205 with Hewitt, and A207 with Sprinkle. These are forty students each (versus about 250 each for the non-honors) and meet only two days a week. Also very difficult to get less than a solid B in the honors accounting classes.

bthomp1,

Thanks for the note. I have copied your and College2007’s advices into a journal even though he probably won’t be able to make into the honor class.

If you are a Direct Admit, what grade is acceptable? I know for the non-direct students you can’t get lower for a B, I’m just curious about Direct Admits.
