I just took a look at the pencil I used on the SATs on Saturday. I assumed it was a No. 2 pencil, but I was wrong--it was a No. 3. I don't know why it took me so long to figure this out, but I'm panicking that my answers won't show up and my scores will be horrible. Should I cancel my scores? Has anyone used a No. 3 on the SATs before? Help!

hmm
can u send me a picture of a no 3 pencil?
ive never seen one before...
anyway u can get that hand checking service or w/e if you are really worried or if you get back scores which say you got straight 200s or something...

you people are weird on the east coast...

No.3 is darker .. it will show <---only a problem if u didn't erase enough.

=)

I think you could only order the Q+S service in advance. A No. 3 pencil looks just like a No. 2 pencil (hence why I assumed it *was[/] a No. 2, except the graphite is harder I guess, which is why it makes a lighter mark than a No. 2.

I will absolutely freak out if I get straight 200s. Or if it only catches some of the marks and I get like 400s or something.

i used a .5 mm lead pencil. thats okay right?

The hand-score option is something you order after you recieve your scores, not when you register. So need to worry, you'll only lose some money from your wallet :P

Yes, as long as the lead is No. 2, which most is.

ali_liu I just tested my No. 3 against a couple No. 2s and the No. 3 is lighter than the No. 2s (like a medium gray compared to dark gray). I'm hoping the computer that reads the marks will be flexible and can read them...

Ok thanks FlyinV.....that is a HUGE relief. I hope I won't have to spend the $ but I deserve it for being dumb.....::smacks self::

Damn, that sucks. Good luck to you, and pray the scantron is feeling forgiving that day. But of course you can always shove more money into CB's arms with the hand-scoring option.

I was scared to even use "HB" lead, because i wasn't 100% sure that it was no. 2. So basically I used a mechanical pencil to work out all of the problems and then filled them in with my no. 2 Ticonderoga. That probably wasted about 5 minutes of my total test, now that I think about it... :(

chill dude, as long as its a pencil, it works

my bad haha, as long as the erase marks are good, then ur whole test will be fine...

Speaking of pencils, does anybody keep the pencils from good SAT experiences in a safe place to use on future important tests, or am i just wierd?
