Aaja J Camp

what a coincidence, im from bc too!
haha its pretty rare to see canadians lurking on cc

On the form, what does it mean by “high school adviser”? Is that my counselor?

where does it mention high school adviser? I see school administrator. but yeah, it would be your counselor.

and is anyone gonna do a video? i kinda dont want to… but if it really helps my chances of getting accepted then i will.

^
I’m going to do one!!!
I really want to do this ^__^

Hey guys, J Camp 2010 alum here. I’m revisiting this thread b/c of BlackRose’s private message. Nice to see that this camp is getting really popular, because it is an awesome opportunity! (But I bet you already knew that…)

As for stats, there was quite a wide range at J Camp and we didn’t really discuss our academic achievements much so I can’t say exactly what GPA you need (though I think it’s 3.7-4.0 range). I think ECs were very important; all the J Campers were either editors of various publications, winners of regional awards at student journalism conventions, experienced writers/broadcasters, etc. And yes, the video helps a lot imo, so I’d definitely recommend getting creative with it.

For me, I had a 4.0 GPA, 2390 SAT, and was opinion editor of the school paper, mag director of lit mag, and student section editor of a local newspaper. But seriously, regardless of your stats, please apply! Your personality and passion for journalism might just be what J Camp is looking for. Best of luck and feel free to PM me if you have more questions.

Dangg I was hoping you wouldn’t say I had to do a video. Its not that I’m shy in front of a camera, its just that its hard for me to think of a creative idea hahhahaha.

and im editor of my yearbook currently and was editor of my middle school newspaper and was a news anchor for my middle school’s tv broadcast thing. do you think thats enough cause I feel like compared to you, my chances aren’t that great… ):

Is J-camp open to international students? The information page of the AAJA site says “multicultural group of high school students from across the nation,” so…it’s multiCULTURAL but not multiNATIONAL? Does anyone know?

where’d you guys get the rec from?

would it be better if i got it from my yearbook teacher (who ive known for 3 years) or my vice principle who ive only met this year?

wish they’d accept international students…but i doubt it : (

I WANT TO GO TO J-CAMP SO BADDDD.
It’s in Detroit this year… sounds kinda sketchy lol but still… D:

Deadline is this Friday! I just found out about this program a few days ago, so I still have to write both my essays and do my video in less than 4 days. Good luck everyone!

what did you guys put in the body of the email?

cause i attached all the things… so my body’s blank.

someone please reply ASAP! Its due this FRIDAY!

I hope I get in!
My essays weren’t too good though :(

Good luck to everyone else!
:D

Do they send back a confirmation email? Afraid app didn’t get through properly.

who made a video?
and for the interview essay question, who did you guys put?

I didn’t get a confirmation email but I’m pretty sure my app got through.

I also did a video
Mine is super cheesy lol but I guess it’s pretty creative?
I put Michelle Obama for my interview essay.

i didn’t get a confirmation e-mail either, and i’m starting to get a little nervous based on how rigorous everyone else seems to be, haha. my sister was accepted in 2007 at miami, but she was pretty vague about telling me what she did to get accepted… :</p>

Does anyone know when notification of acceptances are made?

im thinking like beginning of may cause if you read the earlier posts, thats when they got theirs.

were we suppose to get an email confirmation or something that we turned in our apps? cause i havent…

Yep, I just got my confirmation letter, so you should get them soon, and they said about mid-May in the e-mail, or at least before mid-May
