OK to abbreviate in essays?

My "Why Boston University" short answer is only about five sentences and 740 characters, but I didn't want to keep repeating "Boston University" so after the first time I abbreviated like

"At BU...blahblahblah"

Do you think this would be okay with them? I also was reaching my limit on words/character count so abbreviating helps.

it's not a big deal, but i wasn't sure and wanted to get some thoughts.

After you write the full name of a school once in an essay, you can then use an abbreviation if it is an actual abbreviation used by that school. So saying BU is fine, saying something like “B. Uni” is not. Don’t worry!

haha alright thanks for confirming!
