I couldn't agree more.

Would any of you buy if you could find the clothing at 50-75% off?

haha, my mom came across Chinese sites that actually sold the collared shirts and T-shirts for anywhere from $5-$10 for the T-shirts and $10-$15 for the collared ones.

You can get them at stores like Marshalls, Value City, Pay Half, etc. for a discounted price, too (From what I've heard, they're usually "real".)

My fake clothes have lasted two years already, and they're not torn or worn at all! Granted, I don't wear them day in and day out, I'm a more t-shirt person. But they actually really fit well despite the fact that one's a small, the other's a medium, and the last one's a large (the large one isn't as well fitting though..)

Why do we care if it's preppy or not? seriously. Some of their are clothes fashioned after the style of clothes worn for decades by WASPy, prep school folk. Some of their clothes look more like something you would see on someone walking around a SoCal beach town. ANywho, some of their clothes are in fact preppy, no? Just because not all prep school students wear the brand doesn't mean that the clothes aren't of the same fashion as the clothes more often worn by these "preps".

I think the clothes are tailored to fit only the bodies that they want to see in the store- ie, relatively skinny.

It's preppy, our generation's "preppy".

I don't own anything from there, nor would I ever. I don't care to be a walking billboard for A & F.

Plus, it's wayyy too expensive. Who wants to spend an extra $80 for rips in their pants? No thanks. I'll make mine the old fashioned way, by being rough and tough in $10 jeans :).

Abercrombie is trash. The rich folk I know don't even touch it. The fact that you can buy their stuff half-off in the bargain section tells you how much it's actually worth. I also wouldn't want to walk around the mall with a naked man on my shopping bags (wait, where are the actual clothes in their advertisements?).

I've heard mixed reviews about the quality of the clothing, but from what I hear the jeans are good, most of the other stuff isn't. Anecdotal from other people only though.

Also, the service is not very good, as they tend to flock around people more likely to buy their stuff (I kind of look like one, but some of my friends don't). I don't like the discrimination, or the accosting of people who are attractive and potential employees.

What I truly don't understand is why A&F gets any business. If you are willing to pay 80 dollars for jeans, why not pay 150 for the latest sevens/CoHs/True Religions/R&Rs? You can get them for about 100 at Nordstrom Rack. They are jeans companies. Same with polos. Lacoste, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger all offer polos for comparable prices. Why not pay the same/a little bit more for products that are well-known for being quality and classic?

Not only is Abercrombie extreamly picky with who they hire, most employees only get 15 hours a week, at minimum wage, and are expected to spend half their paycheck on clothing from the store.

whoo what a great job ..

I think the quality of their clothes is really really good and the style is awesome
I don't really like buying T shirts with their logo on it though.

I have mixed feelings with Abercrombie. I really like alot of their clothes, but on certain conditions. I do not wear tee shirts that have ABERCROMBIE on them. That's stupid and a walking advertisement for the store. I will however buy some of their tanks and knit tops, but only the ones on clearance because I am not made of money. On occasion, I will buy something not on clearance only if I REALLY like it. I like the actual store better than hollister because it's less cluttered and things are more organized and I can actually see what I'm trying on. In Hollister the lights are so low and in one corner a shirt looks pink, then all of a sudden it turns orange. I also think people who work at Hollister are 10xs than Abercrombie even though they tend to be snobby as well. Anyways. Like I said I like alot of their clothes unless they make me a walking ad for the store. :)

Has anyone mentioned the smell of their outlets?

I like MadTV's Abercrombie skits. But other than those...not for me.
You guys have to check them out on Youtube.

^^^haha, yeah, those are hilarious! (I like Michael McDonald's character in particular)

Alamode you are way to into that preppy crap. "it's a lifestyle" lol...

YouTube - Mad TV - Abercrombie Skits

fastforward to 5:00 for the racist skit btw lol

Well, here are my thoughts: I own about 4 Abercrombie Shirts: 3 polos, 1 tee. I have had all of them for over a year, some of them going on 2 years. They are not nearly as bad quality as you might think. None of them are falling apart, and they are still just as soft and comfy and form-fitting as they used to be. I think they look nice, especially since the only thing that has a big ostentatious logo is the tee... I only bought it because I run track and XC and it had the winged foot symbol on the front so I had to have it.

That being said, I think when a brand name has that much power, that wearing it on your body evokes so many different emotions from so many people, no matter whether or not you like the brand or the clothing, you have to respect it. The power they have over the fashion world is more immense than it seems, but the most lucrative dept. of fashion is the mall trends, and ANF has quite the grip on it.

And ANF is NOT preppy. It's faux preppy at most. Preppy = RL, Lacoste, Lilly, Brooks Brothers, J. Crew, Vineyard Vines, etc.

I def agree about Abercrombie being faux preppy. But I think Vineyard Vines is too. They try to be preppy but can't. *** is that symbol on their shirts? A blowwhale? My grandpa was wearing it but then I got him some real Polos.

No, Vineyard Vines is extremely preppy. Like really. Over the top? Whales? Anything nautical on pastel colors is usually preppy.

Ralph Lauren's new line is unbelievable. Every time my mother or I go through his spreads in catalogs, my jaw drops. Seriously, the clothes are actually beautiful. Really.

Anyway, again, this is somewhat relevant to AF and Hol. Why pay $40 for a polo there instead of paying $50 for a Lacoste or RL one? They are KNOWN for the quality of their polo. Why not pay $100 for better jeans if you're already willing to pay $80 for some of lesser quality? Plus, AF and Hol. are teeny-bopper clothes. You can't really wear them seriously after college.

That last statement may be strong, but I think it's largely true.

I get my clothes from the Salvation Army or hand-me downs. Get shoes from k-mart or costco. Got 5 free boxer briefs as part of an online survey 2 years ago that I still wear to this day.

hahaha I'm not preppy AT ALLLLL
i shop H&M, F21, Urban Outfitters, Target, American Apparel, etc.--definitely not preppy
I just happen to be into fashion and get annoyed when people think they know what they're talking about if they don't (i.e. think they know what preppy means when they don't)

vineyard vines is the definition of preppy...
