Mine too…

M: 650 (Usually score 700+)
CR: 630 (Usually score 650+)
W: 630 (Usually score 700+)

I got 8 on essay, where I am expecting 12. I did really good and shocked to see low scrore in writing. Not sure whats going on with collegeboard.

How can I request a hand score?

I also want to tell you guys a little bit about how College Board works.
They are the epitome of sluggish bureaucracy; it is embarrassing how inefficient their system is with regards to solving problems.

They told me that the “Resolution Department” (or whatever it’s called) is completely separate from the central department (that you get when you call.)

Because PEARSON (a for-profit company) is in charge of test-scoring, I take this to mean that College Board (whom you speak to) relays their error requests to PEARSON.
Want to know the most troubling part? There is, and I swear I took this verbatim from my conversation with the Manager in the College Board office, “No way they can communicate with the ‘Resolution Department’ (A.K.A. For-profit company, PEARSON).”

Yes folks, you heard that right: College Board has NO WAY of communicating with their so-called “Resolution Department.” In other words, they have CREATED a system that is inherently unfair to those whom they mistreat. Id. est., IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM, they CAN’T directly DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

In summary, if they score your test wrongly:

There is an ENORMOUS lag time. Do you have a scholarship or application deadline? Too bad. Do you need the process expedited? Again, too bad.

Also, who is going to pay to correct their error? Yep, the blame falls flatly on your shoulders. Be ready to divvy up $50 to the corrupt bureaucratic organization that is College Board – even if it’s their fault.

And they expect to pacify us? I don’t think so.
It seems that their whole process is setup such a way that they are PRACTICALLY BEGGING for litigation.

Wrote 2 full pages. Well Worded, Etc, got 9 on essay (expecting an 11 at WORST)

Usually score 780-800 on writing. When i say usually, i mean i scored that on 10 collegeboard writing sections. I got like a 600

Math, 760 worst on ,again, 10 tests. got 700. But I see that as somewhat feasible, perhaps just a harsh curve and nerves.

CR, wayyyy off. ALL 10 collegeboard tests I tok, I got an 800. Yet got 40 points lower.

I more concerned about writing. I’m 90% sure that the score is simply incorrect.

My scores increased as I had expect. Took them for the first time 10 months ago and received about a 1950. Then I took it again this time, prepped hard, and got a 2180.

Writing went from a 680 to a 760.

You guys have to understand that this was a VERY tough curve, especially in math and cr. One wrong was a 770 on math, and less than 3 wrong was a 760, if that’s any indicator. Also, the essay topics were pretty hard, too, and needed to be approached in a bit of a roundabout way. I think this could account for the discrepancies…I think it’s highly unlikely that college board screwed up your scores.

^ You sure 1 wrong on math = 770? Because I’m pretty sure i bubbled ALL answers, yet i got 780. And i was pretty sure about getting 800.

Nevertheless, my CR score is a joke (550). Might did someething awful with bubbling, but still do not believe it. Retaking the November test anyways :/

Though it is unlikely, seeing as most of the discrepancies come from writing which I have heard had a fairly normal curve, I don’t find it very believable. Also, things like this have happened before (October 2005. Check the New York Times), so there is a chance it happened again, especially with the new systems.

I found your message re. Pearson very interesting. My student started out at a public online charter that was bought out by Pearson about two years before we left the school. We noticed a steep decline in the quality of the courses offered at the time that Pearson stepped in and also found that the MC tests were riddled with errors. And I mean, riddled with errors! Some of the time, we were able to address the errors with our teachers, but sometimes I had to go higher (depending on teacher availability and willingness). I still have all the tests and the changes that I managed to wring out of the resolution department. It was utterly maddening and so wrong. We were not treated well. We eventually switched to regular public high school.

So it’s very upsetting to hear that Pearson has their incompetent hands in the SAT pot as well. We also feel that the writing/mc scores were low given my student’s previous experience, grades, and scores although CR was very high.

yeah i also got abnormal scores: i got a 12 essay and a 690 ON WRITING! hows that even possible? by cc i missed none and with a 12 u would have to try to miss ?s. my cr is abnormally low as well. and math? probably bubbling error

my math and writing are abnormal. math was 60 pts lower than it should’ve been according to cc. writing was just plain absurd, didn’t even hit 60 mc and got a 9 essay. i REALLY hope something went wrong

I’m a tutor in the SF Bay area. All of my students underperformed on this test, especially in math and writing. I’m also hearing about abnormally low scores from college counselors and students’ friends. Either this was the toughest test in all my seven years of tutoring or there is a serious problem and the CB could have another lawsuit on its hands.

I’m wondering if the problem is local, as it was in Vermont in 2005. If so, what to do?

I could encourage parents to contact the CB. But I also don’t want to set up any false expectations… Everyone is stressed out enough as it is.

I actually thought it was a really easy test and got a 2380…

Harsh curve?

Although the only problem I had was that I got a 9 on my essay, which was 1 point lower than last time. I thought the essay I wrote this time was infinitely better…

Well everyone, it’s going to be really interesting when we get our QAS in two days.

The sad part it is that it’s highly unlikely they will re-grade the essay – even if this turns out to be my test.

Apparently, with the score verification, they will ONLY make sure that the computer had entered the correct number from the essay graders. The $50 does not cover having a new individual re-score your essay.

I hope I am wrong about this.

-30 lower on Math than expected, but I attribute this to possible machine-reading error, will find out when QAS comes and if need be order score verify

I really hope collegeboard made a mistake and it wasn’t just a harsh curve. Because I know a lot of people, including myself, who got extremely low scores (compared to practice tests before). I expected to get at least 50+ points more for all math, CR, and writing. Many of my friends are complaining that there was a serious mistake with their essay score (they all got 12 in practice tests and got 8s on the real thing). CA

Does the score report that comes out in 2 days show you what you put and the test booklet? Or is that the QAS (that comes in a few weeks)?

@asdf77
The score report that comes out in 2 days only shows the answers you put and the correct answers. The QAS booklet has the questions.

@quiescentcat
I’m pretty sure it’s a national issue…my friends in other states have the same problem.

I really hope it’s a CB error, and not a harsh curve!

Same lol. I mean it could go either way. Maybe we just under performed on test day. Or with this many people doubting their scores, it might have been an error. It doesnt hurt for cb to check all the scores again.

RainbowRed -

First, it’s $55, and not $50 (:(), and all you get for that is verification that the machine read the graders’ scores correctly. CB will not, under any circumstances that they’re willing to disclose, reread your essay.

And I wouldn’t hold your breath to get those results on Tuesday. CB is apparently expecting to be shut down for the hurricane . . . so who knows when we’ll see those reports!
