Abolish the collegeboard (essay)

''i wonder if any (white) american kids have actually immigrated TO china/japan/korea solely for the better education system?''

dude why does it have to be white?

Given how uninformed this person is about the SAT and College Board, does it really surprise you?

Someone didn't do so well on their SAT and is looking for an excuse to justify them being unsuccessful.

Exactly. Bitterness at the system.

Actually I did alright on my SAT and SATII's. If you don't believe me, I would love to fax or scan the report to you. :)

I often think some people who complain about the SAT DO have bitterness towards the system.

geddes: did you read my original post? I never called them unsuccessful, and I never tried to justify such a position. It was the company that runs them.. not so much the test.

While your essay is interesting, it contains numerous factual errors and is poorly thought out. Perhaps you should do a little more research and draw your conclusions based on accurate data.

Cut this kid some slack. People that do well on the SAT also think it should burn. I did good on mine (1330). Of course, at this place that score is considered a stimulus to commit suicide, but I was extremely happy with my score. Even though I was satisfied with my score, I still think an alternative to the SAT needs to be developed FAST, because these tests are unfair. And yeah people are going to call me stupid because if it wasn't for their score they couldn't go to Harvard but oh well.

GoIvy: in my first few sentences, i said that something needs to be done to reduce the control/influence of collegeboard. not that it was an unfair test (although I brought up that a controversy has started over allegedly biased questions). i also said that recent scoring errors underscores the need to reduce that control.
i wrote that post in about 2 minutes, and with no editing. it wasn't meant to be a final draft nor was it meant to be a "research paper" with super-accurate stats.
i'm not saying that we shouldn't have standardized tests, or that colleges should just look at GPA or something (because the standardized tests are doing more for me than my gpa is). i think the company that runs it needs to be reformed. not what colleges look at, and not the test itself. (I don't believe the arguments about biased questions, either, because you can't make it completely "unbiased" for everyone)
i'm sorry if you feel it's poorly thought out. it wasn't a proposal to congress or anything, just my random thoughts and ideas.

If you want to persuade people, you will need to be a little more rigorous in your fact-checking.
