About engineering major taking ugba classes

Hi, I am an engineering physics major that wish to obtain a solid foundation on how business works, hence I was looking at taking ugba classes for self enrichment purpose. I notice that some of the classes are not open to the general student body but rather to hass student only, or has only small number of available seats for junior and senior level student. So my question would be

i. how would I be able to take ugba classes that interest me, and would it be wise to do so
ii. if I did manage to get into the class, would I be taking on a letter grade or p/np
iii. would it be extremely hard for an engineering student to do well in ugba classes

Any information regarding the subject will be greatly appreciated

thanks in advance

UGBA 10 should be open to everyone, since it is for people seeking to enter the business major.

Some UGBA courses seem to have similar courses elsewhere, based on catalog descriptions:

UGBA 100 – consider Mechanical Engineering 191K and College Writing 10A, 10B, 151, 152
UGBA 101A – consider Economics 101A
UGBA 101B – consider Economics 101B
UGBA 103 – consider Economics 136, 138
UGBA 105 – consider Sociology 116, C116G, 119T, 121, and Psychology 163, 180
UGBA 107 – consider Philosophy 104, 108, Sociology 123, Engineering 125, Bioengineering 100, and CS 195, H195

Most non-major courses can be taken for either a letter grade or P/NP.

thank you for your reply ucbalumnus

unfortunately, the courses I want to take seems like there is no equivalent elsewhere

I would like to take

UGBA 106
UGBA 115
UGBA 118
UGBA 128
UGBA 151

so if I want to take these courses most of them has limits on seats for other major

UGBA 118 should be similar to Economics 181, C181 or Environmental Economics and Policy C181 (it even says in the course description that you get no credit for UGBA 118 after taking those other courses).

The others may not have as obvious similar courses. But you may want to look in courses in economics, psychology, sociology, and IEOR for courses of interest.

It does look from the current schedule that UGBA 118, 128, and 151 are not that popular compared to UGBA 106 and 115, based on size of waitlist versus available seats.

ugba 106 is a core class for the major, so it may be harder to get in as a non-major.
for the other courses, most of them are reserved for majors only, but try contacting the professor by email and express interest. they may let you into the course anyway. might as well try

thank you ucbalumnus and crowslayer91 for your advice, I’ll see what’s up with those courses after I finish my first semester.

Hopefully I can get one or two classes that I want to take
