how does financial aid pay out for things like rent for an apartment?

TIA

I’m only going by word of mouth, but here’s what I picked up…

You’re given a certain budget, and you are reimbursed that much by financial aid. Most people receiving full aid (ie. Regents) generally just opt for dorms since it’s just more convenient. However, you are allotted some amount for rent if you’re living off-campus.

Please double-check these details…As aforementioned, I’m only regurgitating what I’ve heard before.

Financial aid doesn’t “pay” anything. The amount in your account – the loans and grants and scholarship monies for the semester – is deducted the amount of paying necessary fees, and the rest is disbursed to you at the beginning of the semester is one giant lump sum. (If you live on-campus, this is a little different and I’m not entirely sure in what ways.)

That does mean you will have all the money you’re allotted for fall semester at the end of August. Budget wisely!
