How does financial aid work with off-campus housing?

hey guys so i decided to live off-campus next year and i dont know financial aid would help cover my apartment fee. would they like give you a check every month or send money to your bank account or something? i really dont know. would be very appreciate if someone knew. thanks!!

I think they send out the money to your EFT account. Or you can choose to pick up a check every so often.

oh thanks birdhouse. that is a relief to hear cause i get a lot of need-based financial aid. how much do they cover your apartment rent up to?

Your financial aid package will be calculated based on a hypothetical budget that is the same for all students living off-campus. After money is deducted for fees and other mandatory university expenses, the rest will be issued to you by check or direct deposit. It’s up to you to manage that money wisely so it will last through the semester.

id probably leave off campus as well… good to know though

It depends on how much fin aid you’re getting. I get enough for it to pay off my tuition, so I was surprised that they sent me a couple hundred to pay for my housing (though then I turned 19 and had to start paying for SHIP, so I basically paid that back plus more).
