Does anyone know how financial aid works for people who don't live on campus? If you receive a fair amount of financial aid from FAFSA (not sure exactly how much yet) do you get a certain amount of money at the beginning of the quarter to help pay for living expenses?

Sorry if it seems like a stupid question, I really don't know how financial aid works. All I know so far is that I receive full coverage for financial aid at my CC, but I'm wondering how it would work if I couldn't get housing after I transfer.

Thanks in advance to everyone who helps!

To put it simply, yes. You’ll get a check (or a couple) at the beginning of the quarter.

i have the same question as well.

for example:

Student A and B both qualified for financial aid with the same stats.

if student A decide live in dorm while student B live in apartment off campus. Student B rent an apartment that cost like $1000 a month. how ever student A dorm cost like $700 a month. do financial pay student B $1000 in check a month to cover housing ? or they pay some % of the rent. And what about student A?

No, they don’t pay more just because you live off campus. You’ll get a percentage of your rent paid for. Same goes for student A.

Actually most school pay you less for off-campus.

There are estimated cost of school for both on campus and off-campus and they find the funds for either amount depending on your preference. Your actual cost of rent makes no difference in their estimate
