hi. im trying to order some used books online not from coop but from half.com(some ebay website). has any of you had bad experiences with ordering books online? i don usually trust things being done online, so i just wanted to know if the quality of the books is as stated on the site and there is any kinda possible fraud or something.

and does the year the book was published matter? or is it okay as long as it has the same isbn number? cuz i was looking around and many books were published like in 2004 and stuff.

and another question. i went to the coop website to check out prices and such. and i am wondering if i can just go to the actual store and buy the books without ordering them online. but im gonna be on ut on like 26th so they might run out of some books. so any advice??

The condition of books that I bought from Half.com were described accurately. Bear in mind that you are buying from individual sellers and their their descriptions are relative. However, the adages "you get what you pay for" and "if it's too good to be true, it probably is" apply.

If you want to be safe, buy a book that is listed in the brand new section or is described as having no marks or no highlights in the used book sections. Also, buy the U.S edition if there are U.S. and International editions.

The only problem that I had w/ a seller was when they put the wrong zip code on the shipping label. The package was sent back to the seller who corrected the zip code and sent again (a "7" was substituted for a 1"). It was an honest mistake but it took almost 4 weeks to get the book.

The year that a book is published may or may not matter depending on how many mistakes were in the first printing. This is usually more of a problem with the first edition of a book than with later editions.

If you go to the Co-op on the 26th to buy your books, you shouldn't have a problem. A lot of students don't buy their books until after they attend the first class and get a syllabus.

thank you very much for your advice. but is there a possibility of them using my credit card account number? i have to give them my credit account number in order to buy books right?

Half.com acts as an intermediary so the seller will not see your credit card number. You pay Half.com and Half.com pays the seller less a listing fee. All the seller will know about you is your name and shipping address.
