I have 3 SAT 2 scores of Math level 2, chemistry, and physics. 780/750/710 respectively.
I was satisfied with my scores, but one of my seniors said that you’ve gotta get a perfect 800 on all of them if you want to apply to some high-level colleges which I am aiming for.
Is that true? I take the Japanese subject test this November and should I just cancel it and register for Math, chem, and physics?
I mean, does 800 and 780, or 800 and 750 make any difference? I see a difference in 800 and 710, but I don’t just get it.
Thank you!
You do not need perfect 800’s on all of them. Have a look at what MIT has to say: http://mitadmissions.org/apply/freshman/tests
Because another senior knows everything there is to know about college admissions? Well, s/he’s wrong.
IMO, there’s little statistical difference between them, and at the end of the day, it’s just one part of the admissions packet.
The only college I know that asks for three subject tests is Georgetown. Just send Math and Chemistry and forget about the physics score. 780 and 750 is fine.
Thank you very much.
@skieurope yes, that senior might have been dumb…
@skieurope
I’ve actually talked about this to that senior and he says that since we are Asian (yes, that senior and I both are Asian) we have to do better than the average score; Asians cannot trust the average score demonstrated in admission websites. Therefore, still, I need perfect score. It sounds pretty plausible to me. Is it true?
No. Some Asians with perfect scores and a 4.0 GPA get rejected, and some Asians with less than perfect scores get accepted. Scores are but one part of the application, so once you hit a certain level, your time is better used perfecting other parts of your application.
@skieurope got it. Thank you very much for your advice.
