About transfer as an international student

Hey guys, I just got admitted by UIUC for Fall 2014 semester, but I feel excited about the news for only two weeks until I saw this in my notification letter: "you will be required to take the English as a Second Language Placement test prior to registration for purposes of Rhetoric placement." :((
Although I am an international student, I have completed all required basic college-level English courses with As at my current school at Georgia( here they are called English Composition I&II, 6 credit hours in all, equals to RHET 105 @UIUC). This is reflected on my transfer evaluation---the credits are totally transferable. Then why do I have to take a ESL test? and what would happen if I do not do well in it?

The TOEFL grade I turned in was not high, it was 80+. Is this the problem? I could have had a better grade but I was so busy with my course works that I did not prepare for it at all. If it is necessary, I can take it again during the summer. I could have a better grade than that.

All in all, can I have any chance to waive the test and avoid another round of ESL course???
I have been taking ESL for a year and half before. Now, I have 60 credit hours to transfer with 4.00GPA.

please help me out guys.
Thanks

I have a world literature I(ENGL2111) ongoing, based on my current grade, it will be also an easy A. So I just don’t get it. They want a guy, who complete college English requirements, to take ESL courses…And by the way, normally, they do not allow you to be prepared for it, you come in and you take a seat, then the exam starts.

I don’t think TOEFL is the problem. It’s kind of like all international students are required to take that test. One of my friend who got 110+ on TOEFL was also asked to take the test.

thanks Hins123…This information is very important to me, do you know what will happen if one does not do well in that test??
