about trying to pay without aid

when do I need to submit documents to prove my family is capable to cover my tuition? before applying or after admitted?

and also, my dad has a income about 50k a year from his formal job and a saving account with more than 1~2 year's tuition fee and a apartment as a investment which worths 2 years' fee.

is that enough to prove my family can pay for my tuition? even though the annual income is not very sufficient

you don't need to prove that you can pay for it...
if you want to pay your own tuition, just don't submit fin. aid form.
However.... 50k/year is probably not going to be enough is it? just tuition+living is ~40k USD.

No, if you are not applying for financial aid, you definitely have to prove that you are capable of paying the tuition fees. Almost every college requires international students to submit the International Student Certification of Finances (or something similar) regardless of whether they are applying for financial aid or not. Plus you need to prove that you can pay when you apply for the visa.

I would say have a talk with your parents and make sure they know the exact costs of the colleges you are applying to. 50K/year could make it a little difficult (esp if you are applying to private colleges- public ones could cost less), so good planning is essential. Good luck!

I know, my parents are going to sell the apartment and use the money in bank(they have many investment other than the formal job, thats why they can support me. but those investments are not fixed income, and they are in different countries, so hard to collect paper proofs)

for sure, they are capable to pay. but many assets are not officially recorded(not illegal though, such as lending to his brother a big amount without signing a contract)

I sent all my forms (international student cert of finances or the school's specific finance form) along with my recs and transcript.
All my colleges (except a UC) wanted to see evidence, before the deadline.

liangshengtm, why dont u ask any rich person you know to certify that they will be provide funding .. and then later u can pay your tuition through the money you have.. i dont know if it can work, but its worth considering

yea thats a good idea, thx waleedk87
