above minimum-wage jobs for 18 year olds?

I really need a job after I graduate high school (I can start in May) until I go away for college in September. I'm trying to look for something that pays above minimum wage. Any ideas? I'm looking in the metro Detroit area, by the way. Which complicates things.

I've been trying to look for temp jobs, but I don't think I'm looking in the right places. I've heard of people getting summer temp jobs without any experience, but all I'm finding are ones where you have to have 3+ years experience in the field, etc.

HELP! Thanks.

Tutoring usually pays decently

If you’re going to go to a good university (T25 area) and have a good SAT score then I would try offering services as a tutor/college process advisor. The SAT testing prep companies get bank from parents of HS students looking to boost scores. If advertise independent services for test prep to parents you can sell them on the fact you would be cheaper (but still make good money), give more personal attention (versus a test prep class of 10-25, who may charge even more for individual tutoring), and flexibility (as you can travel to their home and move times, instead of going to a class which are at fixed times). My next door neighbor had a private advisor help him with all his college applications and test prep and I know his parents dropped bank for it in order to get him into a good college. As there are tons of parents like that out there, the number of people applying to college is a huge market, and admission is more and more competitive, you should have no problem gaining interest. Of course you’d have to do a lot of networking and grunt work without any pay to start with, until you get contact for your services. But it’ll be a flexible, potentially fun, and a demonstration of entrepreneurial spirit/hard work, when looking for internships down the road.
