I saw this being discussed in other thread but didn't quite get the answers I was hoping for.

I am going to be a Senior in High School this fall and currently have a UW 2.877 GPA and W 3.294 GPA. My ACT is a 32, and I'm worried I might not be able to qualify for the Academic Excellence scholarship (I need it to be able to afford the college because I'm OOS). So my questions would be in order:
1)Is the Academic Excellence Scholarship based on UW GPA or W GPA?
2)When is the latest time one can submit their GPA for purposes of Academic Excellence?
3)If I were to apply next month (w/o the 3.0 GPA) would I still be able to submit my later raised GPA?
-On the website the only deadline is the ACT/SAT must be taken before first day of attendance which leads me to believe I can submit my GPA later maybe?

@TheTeoHache The AE scholarship is based on overall GPA. So, if the GPA on your transcript reflects a 3.0+ GPA, you’re good to go right now. If not, you’ll need to pull it up ASAP. Yes, you can submit subsequent ACT/SATs. Go ahead and submit your application for admission and send in the subsequent transcript at the end of the fall semester.

@collegeguider I’m still a bit confused as to what overall GPA means. Would this be as in A=4.0, B=3.0, etc. or would it be the GPA my school provides as my overall GPA (A in AP Class=5.0, B in Honors Class=3.5, etc)

My son is in a is in a similar situation and I had to talk to several different people at Ole Miss but finally got clarification on how the GPA is assessed by the University.

Here is the bottom line:
- An unweighted GPA (calculated by an Admissions Specialist), on core curriculum courses (see the Admissions Guide) only, is used to determine if a student is eligible for “acceptance” to the University.
- A cumulative GPA (that is determined by all high school coursework), as reported by the applicant’s high school, is used for scholarship consideration. Therefore, if your “weighted” cumulative GPA (over 3.0 on a 4.0 scale) is reported by your high school on your official transcript, you would be eligible for an Academic Excellence Scholarship. With a 32 ACT you should have most all of your tuition (both in state and out of state) covered with the Academic Excellence Scholarship.

Hope this helps! We were certainly happy to get this clarified as it means a full-tuition scholarship for our son!

Thank you so much Spacefisher! I’ll still be striving for the unweighted GPA of 3.0+ but relieved to hear I could still attend with scholarship with my weighted!
